Main duties of the job
This is a fantastic career development opportunity for a band 7 midwife to pursue a career in consultant midwifery. Personal development, mentorship and support will be provided, enabling you to identify any development needs, preparing you for a senior leadership role in the future.
Caring for over 5000 women and birthing people a year, UHS is also a regional centre for fetal and maternal medicine, and home to one of the largest neonatal units in the country. The successful candidate will work closely with our two consultant midwives who are passionate about supporting people to make informed decisions about their care and to optimise birth outcomes. You will also work closely with our senior leadership and multi-professional teams and local Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP).

What You’ll Do
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. You will support women and birthing people to make informed decisions about their care preferences and optimise birth outcomes.
2. Working across the four domains of consultant midwifery of expert clinical practice, leadership, education and quality improvement, you will also gain experience in leading service change.
3. The role will also support transformation of maternity services in response to national strategy, guidelines and evidence, as well as emerging themes from regional and local incident learning.
4. There is an ongoing clinical commitment with this role to support women and birthing people as required, and to support the clinical teams.
What We’re Looking For
1. Registered Midwife on NMC register with relevant and recent clinical experience

Qualifications / Training Required
Essential criteria
1. Registered Midwife on relevant part of the NMC register
2. Significant clinical experience
3. Associate/mentorship qualification or equivalent experience
4. Diploma or degree in midwifery
5. Evidence of continual professional development
Desirable criteria
1. Leadership training
2. Examination of the newborn qualification
Previous or relevant experience necessary
Essential criteria
1. Relevant and recent clinical experience or with the ability to demonstrate significant experience in midwifery practice and responsibility for managing a clinical team
2. Experience of setting and monitoring standards
3. Demonstrate specialist expertise underpinned by evidence-based care philosophy
4. Evidence of proven leadership and management skills
5. Previous involvement of multi-disciplinary team working and multi-agency working across the health and social economy
6. Ability to work within a broad, inter-professional team

1. Experience of writing protocols, guidelines and integrated care pathways
2. High dependency course
