Job Introduction
This Senior Sustainability Manager role is an exciting opportunity to work in the BBC Group's Sustainability team which leads the organisation's approach to sustainability and is responsible for the delivery of our Net Zero, Nature Positive and People Positive strategy and program. The role is to lead on both sustainability communications and training in the central sustainability team, working closely with the People Positive lead and the BBC's Sustainability Officer.
BBC Group encompasses Public Service broadcasting and commercial subsidiaries, including BBC Studios and international entities.

We're looking for a passionate sustainability expert with experience in sustainability communications and training, both at strategic and practical levels. Key skills include a proven ability to engage colleagues and motivate them to deliver change as well as experience of collaborating with diverse stakeholders across organisations to manage projects.
This Senior Sustainability Manager role reports to the People Positive lead within the BBC Group Sustainability team overseen by BBC's Sustainability Officer.
Main Responsibilities
As Senior Sustainability Manager your key activities and responsibilities include:
1. Liaising with BBC Corporate Comms and Corporate Affairs team on the delivery of three pan-BBC sustainability comms 'moments' per year around Earth Day, annual BBC Report & Accounts publication and key conferences, including COP (both climate and nature).
2. Writing articles to promote BBC events/stories for the Ariel Sustainability website.
3. Maintaining our two externally facing sustainability websites - Environmental Sustainability and About the BBC (the latter in collaboration with BBC Corporate Comms), and our staff-facing sustainability hub on Gateway, the BBC's internal website.
4. Creating a monthly 'expert' speaker series of 'lunch & learn' talks for BBC Group colleagues.
5. Developing and delivering our sustainability training strategy and plan to meet our People Positive training KPIs and Targets.
6. Contributing to BAFTA albert's 'Culture & Capability' Task Force, to share best practice on sustainability engagement and training.
Are you the right candidate?
To be successful in this role you will need:
1. Demonstrable experience in the sustainability sector ideally in a comparable business or consulting environment, with a proven track record in corporate comms is essential
2. Experience in managing others, both employees and volunteers.
3. Good communications skills, both written and oral, demonstrated through written comms and examples of presentations.
4. To be a team player who can engage with and enthuse both our small BBC Group sustainability team as well as the wider BBC Group sustainability community.
5. Self-starting and highly motivated with the proven ability to influence at a senior level and the ability to lead on key initiatives and meetings with senior stakeholders.
Desirable
1. MSc in Environmental Science / Sustainability / Geography or relevant academic subject
2. Previous experience in a media role
3. Previous experience in a large and complex organisation (either in-house or consulting)
Package Description
Band: E
Contract type Permanent
Location: Office Base at any of the BBC's main offices (London, Birmingham, Salford, Cardiff, Glasgow, Belfast) with hybrid-working expected
Salary: anticipated range £60,000 to £70,000pa (plus London Weighting £5,319 if London based), dependent upon experience
