Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Reading Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 (DOE) About Us: We are a pioneering company in modular robotics, developing cutting-edge solutions for various industries, including nuclear, security, and industrial automation. Our innovative, reconfigurable robotic systems are designed to perform in challenging environments, ensuring reliability and adaptability. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. Role Overview: We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in robotics. You will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and optimizing our modular robotic systems. Your expertise in SolidWorks and mechanical engineering principles will be key in driving product innovation and ensuring high-quality designs that meet industry requirements. Key Responsibilities: Lead the mechanical design and development of robotic systems, from concept to production. Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks. Perform structural and thermal analysis to optimize mechanical performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electronics and software engineers, to integrate mechanical designs with overall system architecture. Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes to ensure robust and cost-effective designs. Prototype, test, and iterate designs based on performance evaluations and stakeholder feedback. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. Key Requirements: 5 years of experience in mechanical design, with a strong focus on robotics or automation. Proficiency in SolidWorks (including advanced features such as surfacing, simulation, and motion analysis). Experience with mechanisms, actuators, gear systems, and precision engineering. Strong knowledge of materials science, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability (DFM). Experience with rapid prototyping and testing methodologies. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Desirable Skills: Experience with modular or reconfigurable systems. Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Exposure to robotics control systems and kinematics. Familiarity with industry standards (ISO, CE, etc.). Why Join Us? Work on groundbreaking robotic technologies in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment. Opportunity to shape the future of modular robotics with a company at the forefront of innovation. Competitive salary and benefits package. Hybrid working model for flexibility and work-life balance. Benefits: Share option plan All full-time employees become eligible for participation in the share option plan after 6 months of employment. The share option plan gives employees a real opportunity to share in the success of the business in the longer term, over and above the sense of only working for a monthly wage. Flexible hybrid working We allow employees to work in the lab or remote with line-manager approval, as best suits the nature of their role and the work they are performing at any time (i.e. physical aspects of mechanical engineering, such as prototype production, tend to be heavily biased towards in-lab, whereas CAD design work, software architecture design, and sales activities are less so). Paid vacation time We offer twenty-five days paid holiday, and 'unlimited' additional unpaid leave. This allows our employees to manage a healthy work life balance, contributing to happy, productive, and engaged employees.Managers retain the right of approval for all holidays (paid and unpaid), allowing us to ensure work capacity in times of peak demand or tight deadlines. Our culture and hiring standards help us identify people that are unlikely to abuse the holiday policy, and, in the rare cases where that might occur we have the opportunity to use performance management to correct any potential abuse or part company with the abusive employee. Contributory Pension We provide a workplace pension scheme to help our employees save for their retirement. Employees can elect to make a salary sacrifice to benefit from pension tax incentives, and the business complements the employee contribution with a contribution from the company. Cycle to work scheme A cycle to work scheme is a great incentive for employees, allowing them to purchase a bike for work-related commuting as well as non-work leisure activities. The monetary savings for the employee can be significant, and the health benefits can increase employee physical and psychological health which improves work and retention. Furthermore, it contributes to lowering our carbon footprint and even creates employer's national insurance cost savings. How to apply? Please send a CV to danielle.chapmanexperis.co.uk
