An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) team at Torbay Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our team as an Infection Prevention & Control specialist working at band 7 to join our hard working, friendly & supportive team.
The purpose of this post is, as part of the Infection Prevention and Control Support Team, using specialist knowledge and skills, to provide South Devon Healthcare Services with comprehensive infection prevention and control support service. This job description covers Torbay and South Devon Healthcare services.
You will act as a highly specialised nurse and role model, providing expert professional advice and education on the prevention and control of infection to other professionals, multidisciplinary groups, patients and carers.
Leading a team of nurses with accountability of specific areas of Primary and Secondary care.
Main duties of the job
* To provide expert advice on infection prevention and control issues.
* To act as clinical Infection Prevention and Control Lead for specified clinical areas, community healthcare professionals and social care staff.
* To develop evidence-based policies and procedures on infection prevention and control issues.
* To initiate, implement and report on surveillance, monitoring and infection investigation programmes, as required by the Department of Health and local needs, for advising on measures for the prevention and control of infection.
* To initiate, implement and lead on audit programmes as required at a local or national level.
* Develop academic programmes to promote excellence in infection prevention and control for all levels and disciplines of staff.
* Ensure continuity and co-ordination of the Infection Prevention and Control service in the absence of the Lead Infection Prevention and Control Nurse and Infection Prevention and Control Doctor on occasions, in particular to lead the response to infection outbreaks and incidents in collaboration with other team members.
* In conjunction with the Lead Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner, support junior qualified and unqualified nursing staff within the Team.
* Lead a team within the Infection Prevention and Control team. You will be responsible for monitoring audit results and healthcare associated infections in your area and compiling action plans in order to support the staff and patients in your area.

Person specification
* Post Graduate Certificate in Advanced Practice (IP&C) or equivalent experience
* First Level Registered Nurse, (NMC)
* Evidence of on-going education and training in Infection Control
* City and Guilds 730/Level 3 Award in Education and Training
* Management course or equivalent experience
* Working to or at Masters level
