Sheffield is one of six sites in England selected to pilot 24/7 mental health centres, drawing together existing services for serious mental illness and increasing access, collaboration with local communities, and strong links with local stakeholders.
This role is a partnership position involving work across Sheffield Health & Social Care NHS Foundation Trust, Heeley Trust, Heeley Plus Primary Care Network, and Sheffield City Council.
This role has been developed specifically for individuals with lived experience of serious mental illness (e.g., bipolar, personality disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, and associated complex mental health conditions) who have worked for a substantial period as Peer Workers/Experts by Experience/Lived Experience Practitioners. By sharing insights from their own experiences and engaging with others, the Lived Experience Practitioner will co-develop and deliver training, consult wider team colleagues, undertake engagement activities, and inspire hope that recovery is possible.

Main duties of the job
Support the development of the Gleadless & Heeley Neighbourhood Mental Health Centre, acting as a key liaison and outreach professional between the centre, teams working at the centre, and wider communities, including people with lived experience in the Gleadless and Heeley area of Sheffield.
Job responsibilities
* Work with workstream leads, colleagues, partner organisations, service users, their carers, and families to ensure co-production in terms of scope, planning, design, and delivery of workstreams/projects within the programme.
* Support the delivery of co-produced care pathways through workstream projects to a high standard and in a cost-effective manner.
* Act as a point of escalation for workstream leads regarding co-production and promoting resolution.
* Provide consultation and training to staff in understanding and working with people with complex social, emotional, and interpersonal difficulties.
* Manage the delivery of benefits and track realisation of co-produced interventions.
* Provide leadership and participation in relevant internal and external working groups, sharing expertise/support on co-production matters.
* Forge close working relationships across the 24/7 pilot partners to facilitate effective co-produced outcomes.
* Communicate complex, sensitive, and contentious information to a wide range of audiences, appreciating the challenges faced by service users.
* Work flexibly to support effective engagement and relationships that deliver change using the co-produced approach.
* Coordinate Experts by experience and volunteers within the 24/7 mental health pilot workstreams when required.
* Co-produce reports summarising issues, appraising outcomes, and providing updates on progress against the programme implementation plan.
* Contribute to the development of key performance indicators for assessing individual and workstream success.
* Support local evaluation of the Heeley 24/7 mental health pilot in conjunction with external evaluators.
* Provide liaison to wider mental health, local authority, primary care, and VCSE teams for personalised care, support, and treatment.
* Co-develop and co-deliver engagement events across all stakeholders, patients/public within Heeley.
* Contribute the lived experience view to business plans, performance strategies, and improvement programmes.
* Enable the use of flexible approaches to collecting patient experience data.
* Lead the development and dissemination of engagement and communications strategies/messages ensuring the service user voice remains central.
Person Specification
Training and Qualifications
* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development/training in areas supporting Experts by Experience/Lived Experience Practitioners.
Knowledge and Skills
* Ability to work to tight deadlines, under pressure, and prioritise own work streams.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Independent leader and thinker with good judgement, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
* Ability to provide leadership support and guidance to service users and carers.

Experience
* At least 3 years prior experience working as an Expert by Experience/Lived Experience Practitioner within mental health.
* Experience of leading co-design projects from conception to delivery.
* Experience of supervising and guiding the work of other staff.
* Experience of leading meetings and setting agendas.
