The Opportunity As a Data Architect, you will be at the heart of designing and delivering modern data solutions, driving high-quality data architecture and design outcomes for enterprise organisations. You will leverage your expertise in modern technologies, data management approaches, and industry best practices to create scalable, robust, and innovative data solutions. Working in an agile environment, you will ensure that data architecture aligns with both strategic objectives and delivery excellence. Responsibilities Design high-level and low-level data architecture solutions, including creating data models (conceptual, logical, physical) and metamodels to support organisational data strategies. Develop, implement and maintain data lineage and metadata management approaches to assure data traceability, governance, and quality. Produce and own architectural artefacts such as data flow diagrams, system interface designs, and source-to-target mappings for data migrations. Apply principles from frameworks such as DCAM, DMBOK, TOGAF, and other modern methodologies to ensure a cohesive and future-proof architecture. Collaborate with stakeholders, including agile leads, business analysts, developers, and other architects, to ensure functional and non-functional requirements are captured, understood, and implemented effectively as part of the design process. Advocate for and implement best practices in data management, including schema design, query optimisation, and scalable storage solutions. Provide design options to cater for tactical and strategic solutions, depending on time sensitivity of each project and product, without compromising on the reference target state goals. Implement smart design components in your solutions to pivot organisations towards data products and, where pragmatic, implement principles aligned to the Data Mesh. Act as the SME to help clients understand and assess different solution architecture archetypes, such as the Modern Data Warehouse, Data Lakes, Lakehouses, and the respective offerings from leading closed and open source providers, with the ability to provide cloud design recommendations best suited to each archetype. Actively contribute to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and iterative delivery processes. Support the definition and maintenance of reference architectures, standards, and guidelines for data architecture. Requirements (Not expected to be strong in all areas) Proven experience in data architecture and design, particularly in cloud environments such as Azure and AWS. Strong understanding of data modeling techniques at all levels, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models. Detailed understanding of the main data modelling approaches (e.g. 3NF, Kimball, Data Vault, Graph, etc) and able to assess pros and cons of each within different contexts. Experience with tools and methodologies for metadata management, data lineage, and governance (e.g., Unity, Collibra, Erwin). Familiarity with designing and implementing solutions for deployment in data lakes, data warehouses, and operational data stores. Knowledge of modern data frameworks, including streaming platforms, NoSQL databases, and distributed systems. Solid experience in creating architectural documentation and artefacts such as source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, and integration designs. Familiarity with agile methodologies and experience working in cross-functional agile teams. Awareness of architectural principles and frameworks, including DMBOK, DCAM, TOGAF, and modern data-centric approaches. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. A background in developing scalable, secure, and maintainable data systems that align with enterprise standards.
