Covia is looking for a dynamic Buyer who will have a positive impact on the Procurement team at our Peterborough corporate office. The Purchasing Buyer initiates purchase orders based on business requirements and inventory levels. The successful candidate will administer our purchasing contacts and contract database, monitor vendor pricing, availability, expedite delayed orders as well as assist with supplier negotiations and RFQs. The Purchasing Buyer will report to the Business Unit Procurement Manager administering the procure-to-pay process for capital projects as well as assigned facilities in Canada and/or the US.
The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:
* Responsible for the overall management of administrative functions for the Procurement Department at the assigned plants.
* Review open Purchase Orders and receipts, monitor vendor performance, and expedite when necessary. Ensure problems related to delivery or payment are promptly resolved.
* Prepare purchase orders in IFS (ERP System) by verifying specifications and price, comparing items requested to the supplier agreements.
* Manage site supplier agreements in IFS, including the adding of pricing when necessary.
* Manage the accuracy of receipt items by contacting and verifying with plant receivers.
* Resolve problems related to on-time delivery and/or payment promptly.
* Manage the handling of invoice exceptions in accounts payable application.
* Perform various routine administrative duties, such as preparation of correspondence and reports, ordering supplies, and securing services as required for office equipment.
* Prepare various procurement and project status reports to present to management.
* Apply corporate and site-specific policies and procedures in daily activities, particularly as they relate to material purchasing.
* Assist and conduct supplier negotiations plus Request for Quotes.
* Sourcing Activities.
* Work with Business Unit Procurement Manager requesting and analyzing quotations.
* Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
* 3-5 years of proven success in a purchasing role
* Additional experience, specialized training and/or certification
* High School Diploma required
* Proficient with Microsoft Office Products, specifically Excel
* ERP System experience required
* Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
* Time management ability to prioritize tasks to ensure deadlines are met and verify that orders come in when expected
* Self-motivated, highly organized, and enjoys a fast-paced environment
