Operations Manager - ENVIRONMENT Essex & Suffolk An opportunity has arisen for an Operations Manager to work in and around the Essex & Suffolk area on infra / non infra water and wastewater projects. As an Operations Manager you will report to the Head of Delivery and be responsible for the management and control of the construction operations of the Business, ensuring the safe and efficient running of nominated projects. What you will be doing: Be responsible for the leadership and management of the nominated sector Operations Department Team and its function. Participate in the development of the business unit and Operational strategies and advise on the impact of Business Unit Initiatives. Ensure that all operations are carried out in an efficient, safe and economic manner, with a view to the protection of the company’s interests, client satisfaction and repeat business. Ensure projects are accurately and correctly reported, both in terms of progress and cost. Chair monthly cost review meetings with Project Managers & Commercial Managers to verify project reports. Present results to the Board, with all information relevant to current position and expected outcome. Review the resource levels for proposed and current live projects, ensuring it is sufficient to carry out operations. Identify recruitment requirements and obtain necessary resources as appropriate. Directly manage selected projects to ensure successful safe delivery within business unit targets Review the performance of subordinates. Act on review information as laid down in the company policies and procedures. Hold personal development reviews as HR policies, recognise any training requirements and manage staff development. Ensure compliance with the Galliford Try Health, Safety & Sustainability Standards always. Take ownership of the development of Challenging Beliefs, Affecting Behaviour within the sector as designated Champion. Drive improvements with project associated targets as necessary i.e. Considerate Constructor Scheme, Corporate Responsibility and Environmental performance etc. Provide HS&S reports for all nominated sites as deemed necessary by the Operations Director to allow accurate and timely reporting to align with Division & Group requirements. Ensure new starters are inducted into the Health, Safety & Sustainability, Quality Assurance, BMS and Management procedures by the appropriate person. Ensure the teams implement the systems, accordingly, attend audits and close out any identified non-conformances. Provide assistance & any necessary support to pre-commencement departments as appropriate to secure new work in line with the Partnerships North Business Plan. Take full ownership of schemes from planning application stage through to completion and defects liability periods. Liaise with the Planners for the production of tender, contract, target and short-term programmes. Manage as appropriate the resolution of Client and Supply chain contractual matters, including liaison with external consultants. Deal with any litigation matters. Be aware of any changes to legislation relevant to operational elements of the business and disseminate this to subordinates. Be innovative by challenging and re-thinking processes and systems to improve efficiency and to make recommendations to the Board for consideration. Be pro-active in problem solving, finding solutions to obstacles for the benefit of the business. Share lessons learnt and feedback to relevant members of staff and Directors. Drive and monitor production on all sector projects, identifying improvements and mitigation measures to ensure completion of projects on or before contract completion dates. Liaise with the Sales Managers and Staff to agree matters which effect each department i.e. production on site to achieve sales targets, specification, Customer requirements etc. About You: Recent proven track record of delivering construction projects on time, to budget and quality standards with high customer satisfaction results. Experience in infra / non infra water and wastewater projects. Extensive construction HS&S knowledge and a proven track record of delivering sites safely. Experience of leading multiple teams to achieve delivery objectives. Significant management ability to successfully engage with subordinates and other staff to positively form pro-active teams. Ability to delegate effectively & fairly to avoid conflict. Ability to manage conflict situations should the need arise. Ability to manage external contacts to benefit the business at every opportunity. Ability to recognise potential problems, identify solutions and successfully deliver mitigation plans. Ability to gather project related information and produce accurate detailed progress reports. Ability to manage the detail of projects but also recognise the bigger picture for the benefit of the business. Proven track record of achieving & sustaining high customer satisfaction results. Able to work within a pressurised environment. Forward thinking individual. Aware of individual Health and Safety responsibilities and adheres to company health and safety policy and procedures.
