We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join a leading railway engineering firm in Derby. This company specialises in rolling stock repair services, generating over £4 million in annual sales!
You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing engineering projects, serving as the primary technical point of contact. You will ensure smooth project execution, provide cost estimates, and collaborate with internal teams and customers.
This Full-Time, Permanent role is Derby-based, with regular site visits required.
What you'll be doing
* Act as the technical lead for assigned projects
* Develop project scopes, deliverables, and cost estimates
* Oversee projects via the New Product Introduction (NPI) system
* Create technical documentation (EWIs, SOPs, route cards)
* Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions
* Lead NPI meetings with internal and external teams
* Complete BOMs to support production and procurement
* Use CAD software to enhance design processes
* Interpret engineering drawings and ensure compliance with quality standards
* Undertake business travel (local and national, fully funded by the company)
Hours
Monday-Thursday 7am-3:30pm & 7am-12pm on Friday
Pay
£38,000 - £40,000 per annum (Depending on experience)
Skills/Experience Required
* Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related)
* Minimum 1 year of project engineering experience
* Strong understanding of engineering principles and project management
* Experience with rolling stock vehicle and component repairs (preferred)
* Must have a valid UK driving licence
* Proficiency in MS Project and CAD software
* Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
* Ability to write technical documents and lead NPI meetings
* Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work
* Willingness to travel and work on customer sites
* Some knowledge of welding would be advantageous
