Teaching Personnel are looking for confident, outgoing individuals to kick start a rewarding career in special education. A background in SEN with either adults or children is desired but not essential for the role. The school in question is a community primary school based in Hackney. There are a number of roles to be filled all starting ASAP for the rest of the academic year and beyond.
Job Duties:
- Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) for students with special educational needs (SEN)
- Support students with their learning activities, both individually and in small groups
- Provide assistance to the classroom teacher in delivering lessons and managing student behaviour
- Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students
- Collaborate with the teaching team to develop appropriate strategies and resources to meet individual student needs
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to the teacher
- Assist with personal care and physical support for students with disabilities or mobility difficulties
- Promote effective communication between students, teachers, and parents/guardians
- Attend meetings and training sessions as required
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics
- Understanding of special educational needs and the ability to support students accordingly
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards students with SEN
Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- Previous experience working in a similar role, preferably in an education or care work setting
- Knowledge of different learning strategies and approaches for students with SEN
- Familiarity with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to SEN
- Basic understanding of child development and learning theories
- Good organisational and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
- Additional training or qualifications related to supporting students with SEN
- First aid certification
Working Conditions:
The SEN Teaching Assistant role is based in a school environment. The working hours are typically aligned with regular school hours. The role may involve occasional physical activity and the need to assist students with personal care. The individual may need to adapt to different classroom settings and work closely with students, teachers, and other staff members.
