Alexander Lloyd is proud to be partnering with an outstanding organisation within the Educational sector in their search for a Finance Manager.
Our client is a leading organisation in Sussex, with a rich history of providing excellent services to their customers.
In this role, the Finance Manager will meet external and some internal financial reporting requirements of the business and its subsidiaries, including: production of annual financial accounts, financial reporting and administration around externally funded research and enterprise projects, reporting to regulators, and tax reporting and administration to HMRC (e.g. VAT). The role supports the Finance Director in maintaining oversight for the operational effectiveness and enhancement of key financial systems.
You will manage/lead a team of 7 members of staff.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare accurate and timely financial accounts that comply with all relevant accounting standards.
* Oversee all aspects of the month-end close process.
* Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and investigate any discrepancies.
* Maintain strong internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial records.
* Keep financial systems up-to-date and ensure all users are properly trained.
* Manage VAT and corporation tax reporting to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
* Oversee the financial administration of research, consultancy, and other contracts.
* Manage financial reporting to regulators and ensure compliance with all requirements.
* Collaborate with internal and external auditors to address any audit findings.
* Develop and mentor the Finance team, setting objectives and tracking their progress.
* Actively participate in the Finance Department Management Team.
* Contribute to and support various ad-hoc projects within the Finance Department.
What you need:
* Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
* High attention to detail and accuracy
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
* Strong understanding of UK GAAP (FRS 102)
* Good understanding of VAT and Corporation Tax
* Knowledge of how large financial systems operate
* Ability to solve complex issues through analysis
* Ability to assimilate new information quickly
* Proactive in identifying service enhancements
* Maintain confidentiality
