Role Overview
Sacro’s mission is to deliver life-changing services that empower people, give hope and protection, and help to build safe communities. The aim of the Sacro Edinburgh Travel Service is to facilitate the visiting of prisoners by their families and friends so that relationships can be maintained during a sentence.
Sacro’s Travel Service provides a regular transport service to many of Scotland’s prisons and the State Hospital at Carstairs. The service is part of Sacro’s Throughcare Service, enabling people in prison to maintain important contact with their families and friends which research has shown helps to reduce reoffending.
We pick up our registered passengers from their home address and take them to their arranged visit before returning them home again completely free of charge.
Responsibilities
1. Drive registered passengers to and from their visits.
2. Maintain confidentiality and show respect to all passengers.
3. Commit to at least one journey each month.
4. Be punctual and organized.
Minimum Requirements
1. Must have a full, clean UK Driver’s Licence.
2. Access to your own vehicle with a current MOT and regular servicing.
3. Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) is required.
4. Must be able to commit to volunteering for at least a year and be regularly available.
Volunteering with Sacro provides the opportunity for skills and knowledge to be put into practice while giving back to the local community. All volunteers will receive comprehensive Sacro training.
