Optima Plus Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse / Registered Operating Department Practitioner to join our dynamic Theatre department in Devon. In this vital role, you will be at the forefront of perioperative care, providing outstanding support to patients before, during, and after surgery. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining exceptional standards of care and ensuring the safety of all patients in the theatre environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perioperative Care: Deliver expert care before, during, and after surgery, ensuring that the highest standards of patient safety and comfort are maintained.
2. Patient-Centered Care: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care, tailored to the unique needs of surgical patients.
3. Collaboration: Work seamlessly with the multidisciplinary theatre team, including anaesthetists, surgeons, and theatre staff, to deliver coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
4. Theatre Management: Prepare and maintain the theatre environment, ensuring it is sterile, organized, and equipped to support safe surgical procedures.
5. Medication and Treatment: Administer prescribed medications and treatments in line with Trust policies and theatre protocols, ensuring patient safety at all times.
6. Leadership: Supervise and mentor junior staff, including theatre assistants and students, offering guidance and support during surgeries.
7. Quality Improvement: Participate in theatre audits and contribute to quality improvement initiatives to enhance the theatre service.
8. Flexible Working: Work a variety of shifts, including weekends, nights, and on-call as required, ensuring optimal staffing and patient care in the theatre setting.
Key Duties:
1. Environment and Equipment Management: Ensure the theatre environment is effectively managed, with all equipment, surgical instruments, and team coordination functioning smoothly.
2. Safety and Hygiene: Promote a culture of safety, adhering to infection control standards, patient safety protocols, and maintaining impeccable theatre hygiene.
3. Mentorship: Act as a role model for junior staff, providing guidance on best practices in patient care, safety, and professional conduct.
4. Patient Comfort: Ensure patient comfort and well-being throughout the surgical process, communicating effectively with patients and their families, providing emotional support as needed.
5. Collaboration and Coordination: Work collaboratively within the theatre team to ensure efficient and timely patient care, addressing any issues that arise with professionalism and care.
Person Specification:
1. Qualifications: NMC Registered Nurse / HCPC Registered Practitioner, Diploma/Degree Level or equivalent. ENB 182/183 or equivalent (desirable).
2. Professional Development: Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and a strong commitment to professional growth.
3. Mentorship: A mentorship qualification or the willingness to work towards achieving it within 18 months (desirable).
4. Experience: Extensive experience in theatre, with a strong background in patient care management.
5. Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
Key Working Relationships:
1. Internal: Theatre staff, anaesthetists, surgeons, junior doctors, theatre assistants, ward staff, and others within the theatre environment.
2. External: Medical engineers, equipment suppliers, contractors, and relevant external agencies.
Freedom to Act:
As an integral member of the theatre team, you will have the autonomy to make decisions regarding patient care and the theatre environment, with appropriate escalation to senior staff as necessary.
