Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Child Protection (CP) Social Worker Consultant to provide specialized support and consultancy to social work teams, organizations, and local authorities in managing complex child protection cases. The successful candidate will bring their expert knowledge and experience in child protection to provide guidance, advice, and direct intervention in safeguarding children and families, ensuring that the highest standards of practice are met in line with statutory requirements. Key Responsibilities: Consultancy & Guidance: Offer expert consultancy services to social work teams and partner organizations regarding child protection assessments, care planning, and case management. Advise on best practices for managing child protection investigations and safeguarding processes. Ensure that services are delivered in line with statutory and regulatory frameworks, including Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and local safeguarding policies. Case Management Support: Provide direct consultation on complex child protection cases, including high-risk situations involving neglect, abuse, and trauma. Support the development of child protection plans, risk assessments, and care strategies. Review case files and offer recommendations for improving case management practices. Training & Development: Design and deliver training sessions to social work teams and other professionals on child protection matters, including risk assessments, safeguarding, and best practice in intervention. Mentor and supervise social workers or less experienced staff members on complex cases to improve practice and build team competency. Collaboration & Partnership: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as local authorities, healthcare providers, schools, and law enforcement to ensure a holistic approach to child protection. Collaborate with other specialists (e.g., legal advisors, therapists) to ensure comprehensive care and protection for children and families. Advocacy & Reporting: Represent the organization at child protection meetings, tribunals, and hearings as required, advocating for the best interests of the child. Prepare and present detailed reports on cases and progress, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. Quality Assurance & Auditing: Ensure that all child protection cases comply with local safeguarding frameworks and national standards. Participate in audits, reviews, and evaluations of child protection services to ensure continuous improvement. Policy and Research: Contribute to the development and review of child protection policies and procedures. Stay up-to-date with the latest research, legislation, and trends in child protection and safeguarding.Essential Qualifications and Experience: Degree in Social Work (BA, MA, or equivalent). Valid HCPC or equivalent social work registration. Significant experience (typically 3 years) in child protection, safeguarding, or related fields. In-depth knowledge of child protection legislation, guidance, and best practices. Proven track record of successfully managing complex child protection cases. Strong understanding of risk assessments and care planning in child welfare. Experience in training and mentoring social work professionals. Excellent communication, report writing, and advocacy skills.Desirable Skills: Postgraduate qualifications in social work, child protection, or related fields. Experience in a consultancy role within child protection. Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary setting.
