Job Duties
VDOT's Lynchburg District Buckingham Area Headquarters is seeking a wage Laborer to perform manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed for project completion. As the qualified candidate, you will:
• Perform flagging operations
• Assist in setting up workzones
• Perform heavy manual labor and lift up to 50 pounds regularly
• Operate and maintain hand and power tools
• Operate light and medium equipment
This is a wage position and is limited to 1,500 hours of work in the twelve-month period beginning May 1, through April 30. No state benefits are provided.
Positions are designated as essential, and as such, may be required to work outside normal hours on nights, weekends and holidays during emergency operations.
Additional vacancies may be filled from this applicant pool within 90 days of the closing date in the Farmville Residency.
Minimum Qualifications
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Skill in the operation, maintenance of light and medium equipment used for highway maintenance and repair.
• Valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
• Skill in the operation, maintenance of hand-held and power tools.
• Ability to read, follow oral and written instructions.
Additional Considerations
• Experience in equipment operation and performing preventive maintenance.
• A combination of training, experience, or education in Maintenance, Construction or related field.
• Experience with emergency operations to include snow removal, storms, and accident clean-up.
• Experience performing roadway maintenance or construction activities.
