Senior Process Engineer, Fermentation

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to spearhead our fermentation and bioreactor scale-up strategy. The ideal candidate should be a bioreactor scalability expert with previous experience in bioreactor design work, passionate about technology and sustainability, and driven by an entrepreneurial spirit.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the optimization and adaptation of bioreactor design for scaling up our patent-pending fermentation process into larger vessels.
* Collaborate in designing pilot and commercial production facilities.
* Develop and improve manufacturing processes to enhance productivity, quality, and safety.
* Identify and implement process improvements to reduce costs, minimize waste, and increase efficiency.
* Monitor and analyze process performance metrics, such as yield, productivity, titer, and develop strategies to meet or exceed targets.
* Establish strategic partnerships to support our goals and manage existing R&D partners (CMOs, R&D partners, etc.).
* Establish and oversee key experiments at lab and pilot scale.
Requirements:
* 5+ years of experience in process engineering.
* BSc or MSc in Engineering (chemical, mechanical, industrial, or similar).
* Experience scaling up a bioprocess at large volumes (>1000L).
* Extensive experience in fermentation processes across a wide range of organisms.
* Deep knowledge of fungal fermentation.
* Strong background in aerobic fermentations, oxygen uptake, kLa, and mass transfer.
* Experience with different types of fermentation.
* Proficient in process analysis, process modeling, statistical analysis, simulation software, and computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
* Strategic and analytical mindset, able to find new ways to reach company goals.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Self-motivated and able to drive work as part of a hybrid team.
* Passion for food, the plant-based industry, and sustainability.
Salary Information:
£80,000 - £110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
