We wish to appoint to a registrar post in Vascular Surgery (ST3+ or equivalent) to start in October 2024. This post would be suitable for surgeons in training seeking to gain additional experience in Vascular Surgery prior to gaining a National Training Number; for surgeons wishing to take time out of training for a period of research whilst continuing to deliver clinical work, or for surgeons towards the end of training (UK or overseas) or post completion of training who wish to gain exposure to advanced endovascular aneurysm repair (TEVAR/FEVAR/BEVAR). We will appoint the candidate whose application and training needs we can best support.
Main duties of the job
The post is based in the Brunel Building at Southmead Hospital. The post holder will take part in a separate middle grade vascular on-call rota. The post holder would be expected to deliver outpatient clinics at one or more of the non-arterial network hospitals (University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS FT and Royal United Hospital Bath NHS FT).
The post-holder will be expected to provide supervision and support for more junior surgical trainees within his/her competence. Although the post does not have postgraduate approval for training, assessment of progression will be by regular meetings with the post educational supervisor. Continual assessment with use of PBA (procedure based assessment), attendance at educational meetings and reflective learning will be supported. A formal learning agreement will be in place for the commencement of this post.
They will be required to participate in clinical research, audit, and quality improvement activity, completing at least one project during the fellowship year.
Working for our organisation
The Bristol Bath Weston Vascular Network was formed in October 2014. The major arterial centre for the network is Southmead Hospital. The network is responsible for the delivery of both elective and emergency vascular care to the populations of Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, and parts of Wiltshire and Somerset. This includes all arterial surgery for this population, and in addition varicose vein treatments and diabetic foot care. The population served by the network is 1.12 million. In addition, the network provides complex endovascular services for the 3.5 million population of the South West.
Full Registration with the GMC is essential for appointment but not needed for application (but you must be qualified to fully register). The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. Necessary knowledge of English to safely practice in the UK is essential.
