Job summary We are seeking full-time Locum Consultant to join our OUTSTANDING Trust in our Pain Management team, as part of the Anaesthetic department to cover maternity leave. Applications are invited for a Consultant in Pain Management. This new appointment affords an exciting opportunity to join a busy, innovative, developing and expanding anaesthetic department. These posts are full time appointments for a 12 month period (10 PAs) with 9 PAs of Direct Clinical Care including 1 PA for Supporting Professional Activity. The Department provides anaesthetic services for elective surgery in: General Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Burns Surgery, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery and Gynaecology. The Trust has taken delivery of a surgical robot. The first robot assisted operation took place at the end of April 2022. Currently Colorectal, Gynaecological and urological robotic surgery is well established. The Trust is the only Trust in Merseyside undertaking emergency and elective Bariatric surgery. The department also provides emergency anaesthetic cover for these services on a 24 -hour basis. The Department also provides a 24-hour epidural service for analgesia during labour, and a 24-hour anaesthetic service for obstetric emergencies including caesarean sections. Main duties of the job On call/emergency commitments There are no on-call commitments attached to this post. Out of hours, there is a 3-tier resident on-call service. Tiers 1 and 2 comprise trainees of which one is primarily for obstetrics duties. The 3rd Tier is staffed by Speciality Doctors. The 1st on call Consultant (non-resident) is required to liaise closely with the 2nd on call Consultant. The 2nd On Call Consultant (non-resident) would attend at the request of the 1st On Call Consultant Anaesthetist. There is a consultant anaesthetic delivered weekend and public holiday orthopaedic trauma service providing all day (08:00 to 18:00) cover. There are weekend plastic surgical trauma sessions, two of which benefit from anaesthetic cover. Weekend Elective Activity There is significant "Out-of-Hours" elective activity. This activity provides increased capacity required to meet clinical targets and is in line with the NHS moving toward seven day working. The appointees will be required to undertake weekend and public holiday work which may include orthopaedic trauma service rota, the weekend plastic surgical trauma lists and OOHs elective workload subject to appropriate job planning and the varying requirements of the trust. Locum posts attract 1 PA for Core Supporting Professional Activity (SPA); to meet the requirements of continuing professional development, enhanced appraisal and revalidation, audit, teaching and educational supervision of trainees.
