About the role
Here at DS Smith, we are looking for an experienced Global Category Manager specialising in HR Services to join our Indirects Category Team.
Reporting to the Head of Indirects Procurement, the Global Category Manager – Human Resource (HR) Services is responsible for driving holistic value and cost reduction across an assigned portfolio of spend. This spend comprises of HR Services expense across all divisions, required across the business, including recruitment, contract labour, learning and development, employee payroll and benefits, pensions and health insurance etc. Holistic value includes the identification of priority ESG strategies across category. Key stakeholders are across the group and all divisions
As the successful candidate you will create value by building and implementing innovative category strategies and commercial procurement solutions that deliver a competitively advantaged supply base for DS Smith across all HR Services expense. You will be operating as a collaborative member of the Indirects Category Team in partnership with other team members.
The Indirects Category Team is accountable for:
* Shaping and aligning the Indirects Procurement strategy to support the achievement of business goals including growth, innovation, ESG (inc. Scope 3) and manufacturing excellence
* Partnering with stakeholders to ensure the function competitively sources quality products and supplier services whilst maintaining and building strong relationships with strategic suppliers in line with group Innovation, Environment Social Governance (ESG) and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals
* Partnering differently across the value chain to create innovative business offerings that delight our customers and support business growth
Key responsibilities:
* Providing commercial thought leadership to mature the HR Services category alongside business stakeholders, leveraging external best practices
* Develop and implement with stakeholders, 1-3 year category strategies, supported by execution roadmaps to deliver this strategy with short, medium and long term initiatives.
* You will utilise tools like Porters Five Forces and Kraljic to gain a strong understanding of market dynamics and cost drivers specific to HR & L&D.
* Engage and influence stakeholders at all levels to maximise the impact of the Category Strategy.
* For HR Services, understanding and responding to market intelligence and economic fundamentals to ensure the best time to go to market for optimal supplier pricing and value
* Develop deep understanding of the supplier capabilities, industry and roadmaps for key products and/or services
* Delivering supplier strategies which actively anticipate and reduce supplier risk (e.g., sole supplier risk, financial health, data privacy, information security, modern slavery) and secure competitive supply. Partnering with group stakeholders and Procurement Excellence teams to understand and embed agreed risk standards
* Ensure appropriate Supplier contracting strategies are in place across the category to mitigate legal and regulatory exposure
* Partner with legal and stakeholders to develop framework agreements for supply and or maintenance, that can be used by regions and sites
* Embed and monitor relevant supplier KPIs, engineering and site standards into project contracts in support of business requirements
* Work with Shared Services, Regional Procurement teams and business stakeholders to communicate preferred supplier arrangements in a way the business can be guided to buy compliantly. Ensure preferred suppliers are communicated to regional Procurement teams, who assist in making this information available to business
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers, based on agreed supplier segmentation model. Ensure supplier reviews are conducted at appropriate frequencies – e.g., quarterly, monthly etc, as agreed with stakeholders, based on aligned segmentation and roles and responsibilities. Revisit the segmentation periodically to ensure continued alignment with business needs
* Ensure H&S clauses are in supplier contracts and to manage supplier non compliance issues or breaches
About you
* A strong knowledge and demonstrated experience of procurement roles in HR Services
* Experience of leading transformational change in procurement and in a matrix environment
* Experience in developing and successfully implementing 1-3 year category strategies
* Ability to deliver to agreed savings and value targets
* Experience in a manufacturing industry preferred but not essential
* CIPS or EU equivalent desirable
* Microsoft-Office suite
* Experience in implementing and managing a range of complex procurement sourcing and contracting negotiations
* Demonstrable track record in influencing in a matrix environment
* Strong analytical and conceptual skill
* A style and approach that puts diversity and inclusion at the heart of all interaction
* Bachelor’s degree level or equivalent by experience
* Fluency in English. Fluency in another European language in Europe where DS Smith has a presence would be an advantage.
* Negotiator capable of delivering great outcomes when leading high value and complex deals
