Our History
We are proud of our rich history, which makes us unique. The estate dates back to the 16th century, originally sold by Henry Owen to the Evelyn family. John Evelyn, passionate about botany and arboriculture, was inspired by Italian Renaissance gardens, leading to the creation of an Italian garden and temple, designed by his cousin, Captain George Evelyn. The estate has been passed down through the Evelyn family, each adding their own touches, and has even hosted kangaroos on the lawn in the past.
Historically, the estate served as a home to the Canadian Army during WWII, a fire training centre for the Home Office, and later became the Fire Service College. Today, it is a welcoming venue where memorable experiences are created for all visitors.
