Overview of the Role:
As the Care Home Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of a 40-bed nursing home, providing exceptional care for individuals living with nursing needs and dementia. This is a pivotal position within our team, requiring strong leadership, compassion, and a deep commitment to delivering high-quality care in a safe, supportive, and homely environment. You will be responsible for managing the care team, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering an atmosphere of respect and dignity for all residents.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead, motivate, and develop a dedicated team of care staff, nurses, and support staff, ensuring high standards of care are maintained at all times.
2. Foster a positive and supportive work environment that promotes teamwork and professional development.
3. Manage staffing levels to ensure the appropriate allocation of resources, coordinating shifts, holiday cover, and absence management.
4. Conduct regular supervisions, performance reviews, and appraisals to assess the performance and development needs of staff.
5. Oversee the delivery of person-centered care to all residents, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social needs are met in a respectful, individualized manner.
6. Ensure the development, implementation, and monitoring of care plans, ensuring they reflect residents’ preferences, needs, and aspirations.
7. Regularly review care and medication records to ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations and best practices.
8. Provide direct support and guidance to staff in managing challenging behaviors associated with dementia and other complex needs.
9. Promote a warm, welcoming, and homely environment that encourages resident independence, choice, and dignity.
10. Ensure the care home meets all regulatory and statutory requirements, including Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards, local authority guidelines, and health and safety regulations.
11. Take responsibility for preparing for inspections and audits, responding to feedback, and implementing improvements where necessary.
12. Maintain accurate, up-to-date records on care plans, medication administration, risk assessments, and incident reporting.
13. Lead the implementation of quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the overall care delivery and resident experience.
14. Oversee the budgeting and financial management of the care home, including managing income and expenditure, optimizing resources, and ensuring cost-effective operations.
15. Monitor and report on occupancy levels, admissions, and discharges, working closely with external agencies and healthcare professionals to manage referrals and placements.
16. Develop and implement strategies to promote the home’s services and reputation, building relationships with local authorities, healthcare providers, and families.
17. Ensure efficient use of the care home’s resources, maintaining a balance between providing high-quality care and controlling costs.
18. Develop and maintain effective communication channels with residents’ families and significant others, ensuring they are kept informed and involved in care planning.
19. Organize regular family meetings and events to promote transparency and build trust.
20. Build and maintain strong relationships with healthcare professionals, local authorities, social workers, and other stakeholders involved in resident care.
21. Identify the training needs of the care team and ensure all staff are adequately trained in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
22. Oversee the implementation of health and safety protocols to ensure a safe environment for both residents and staff.
23. Ensure that all staff are trained in infection control, manual handling, and emergency procedures.
24. Monitor and assess risk factors within the care home, ensuring that necessary precautions are in place to minimize accidents or incidents.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Proven experience as a Care Home Manager, Deputy Manager, or a similar leadership role within a nursing or dementia care setting.
2. Comprehensive understanding of CQC standards and other regulatory frameworks within the healthcare sector.
3. Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
4. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact with residents, families, and professionals at all levels.
5. A compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to care, with a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents.
6. A management qualification, such as an NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
7. Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid NMC registration, or equivalent professional qualification in healthcare will be a plus point.
8. Experience in managing financial budgets and ensuring cost-effective operations.
9. Knowledge of dementia care best practices and experience working with individuals living with dementia.
Competitive salary depending on the Experience
Starting from £45,000 to £60,000 per annum
