Peli BioThermal serves the pharmaceutical sector with temperature-controlled containers in a global rental business model. The service enables the global distribution of clinical trial and commercial pharmaceutical shipments with complete temperature control.
Peli BioThermal owns the fleet of containers and makes them available to customers through a worldwide network of Service Centres and Network Stations. Pharmaceutical customers, or their transportation logistics providers, rent containers from these locations and return them to these locations or to the extended network of Drop Points.
A Cargo Manager is required to manage the container fleet, meeting the customers' required container availability while ensuring that the container assets are efficiently utilized and network balancing costs are minimized. This includes leadership and management of the team, development of its policies and procedures, as well as contributing to the development of its supporting systems and the team. This position provides the successful candidate with an opportunity to make a substantial contribution to the distribution of life-saving medicines, impacting a global patient population.
Primary job duties and responsibilities:
1. Manage the rental fleet and direct the repositioning of assets globally, ensuring units are balanced between sites to meet customer demand.
2. Utilizing new and existing partners, reposition the assets by air, sea, or road to minimize costs while meeting the needs of the customer and the business.
3. Develop strategic plans to identify required business partners to ensure success. These should include airlines, freight forwarders, and logistics partners as required to grow the programs.
4. Negotiate with partners and finalize contracts working with Peli BioThermal’s legal team plus other affected parties.
5. Responsible for all aspects of Credo OnDemand performance, checking and approving invoices and all departmental activities and resources.
6. Maintain the Credo OnDemand freight cost tracker and calculate the monthly accrual.
7. Oversee the collation of customer and sales pipeline forecasts.
8. Manage the inventory levels of the COD program – ensuring the sufficient finished goods inventory is available for customer demands for Cargo, Vault, and Xtreme shipments to avoid any shortages.
9. Plan fleet growth and new container introductions, raising capital expenditure requests while working closely with sales, finance, procurement, and project management teams.
10. Ensure all fleet scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs are conducted in a timely and efficient manner, working closely with the RNM, Quality, and Engineering.
11. Develop and manage multi-modal transportation solutions for fleet balancing.
12. Manage day-to-day operational relationships with partner airlines, freight forwarders, and couriers.
13. Work closely with the RNM’s and Service Centre Site managers on day-to-day operational activities.
14. Define Logistics policies and document practices and procedures in department guides.
15. Provide assistance and guidance to the Peli BioThermal transport department as and when required.
16. Oversee the hiring, training, and development of all direct reports, including, but not limited to, bi-annual performance evaluations, coaching, counseling, and other employee relations issues.
17. Emphasize ethical leadership and decision-making to protect Pelican’s brand and reputation.
18. Actively support Pelican’s commitment to quality and all quality objectives, with an emphasis on continual improvement.
19. Follow company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follow safety guidelines and procedures in accordance with the job.
20. Perform other duties and work on special projects as required or assigned by the President – BioThermal Division.
What you'll need to be successful:
1. You should be experienced in international logistics across multiple modes and have a working knowledge of customs regulations.
2. Preference will be given to experience in a ‘Reverse’ logistics business model and/or serving the healthcare sector.
3. A proven track record in building motivated and efficient teams and a can-do attitude are required for the role.
4. A good working knowledge of MS Office is mandatory.
5. Experience with SAP is desirable.
6. Verbal and written fluency in English and a second European language would be advantageous.
7. Experience and/or knowledge of Inventory Management.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent specific experience
• Minimum of 3 years experience in multi-model logistics management.
