Part of a major international group, this organisation is continuing to invest millions in a new manufacturing facility and CapEx to produce complex high-value components for the automotive industry. Due to continued expansion, a Tooling Project Engineer is urgently sought to support current production and future new product introduction.
Location: Shropshire (commutable from Telford, Shrewsbury, North Birmingham, Kidderminster, Bridgnorth, Cannock, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Stafford areas)
The role:
As a Tooling Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the design of new tooling through optimisation, build, and buy-off process to successful introduction into production.
You will be involved in all aspects of tooling from initial product design, instrumental in tool optimisation design, validation, and simulation process through to tooling vendor project management and tooling buy-off.
1. Review and validate designs for all tooling, including high-pressure die casting tools, trim/clip tools, spray heads, and robot end effectors and jigs & fixtures against specifications & RFQ.
2. Project management of tooling vendors/suppliers; this may involve overseas travelling.
3. Produce 2D CAD product, tooling, fixture, and equipment drawings to support manufacturing, quality, and engineering activities.
4. Conduct part feasibility reviews and apply design for manufacture (DFM) principles to evaluate product designs and produce summary reports.
5. Complete understanding of component tolerances, dimensional capability statistics, and GD&T.
Experience:
You will already have significant experience in tooling, working as either a Tooling Project Engineer or Tool Design Engineer, incorporating design and project management gained with some of the following experience:
1. Expert knowledge of tooling - die casting, metal stamping, plastic injection moulding.
2. Knowledge of robot end effectors, jigs & fixtures, runner & cooling design would be beneficial.
3. MAGMASOFT simulation software and analysis desirable.
4. Project management, supplier vendor management, and effective communication skills in order to build relationships with customers.
