To support the care, welfare and education of children and young people with additional support needs (ASN) in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and guidelines.
A Learning Support Worker may be asked to work with any child or group of children either within a department, within a mainstream class or within an early learning and childcare (ELC) setting. They may be asked to work alongside, or with specific guidance from, any teacher within a school. Work around an individual child may be based on an individualised education programme (IEP). This programme is followed by all staff working with the child/young person and may involve working with other professionals and therapists e.g. Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Educational Psychologist, members of the Educational Outreach Service, etc.
Specific tasks of the Learning Support Workerwill be:
1. To work effectively as a member of the staff team;
2. To promote and value each child and support their inclusion and welfare;
3. To support the delivery of a quality curriculum in a mainstream setting where a child/young person is included;
4. To interact effectively, enthusiastically and appropriately with children/young people to meet their individual education and care needs including assisting with feeding, toileting and personal hygiene tasks;
5. To follow instructions regarding the implementation of individual education programmes (IEP);
6. To evaluate tasks undertaken as set in the IEP, keep accurate records and report progress to teachers;
Anderson High School is a six year school, serving the Shetland community, with our associated primary schools of Bell’s Brae, Hamnavoe, Nesting, Scalloway, Sound, Tingwall and Whiteness. In addition, pupils from the small islands of Fair Isle and Foula attend the school for up to six years. The school also serves all pupils in Shetland for S5 and S6, except for those attending Brae High School. There are extensive transport arrangements into Lerwick, and Halls of Residence accommodation for those pupils unable to travel each day.
In August, pupils were enrolled at Anderson High School. The Head Teacher is Mr Robin Calder.

8. Please note that this job is not Career Graded. What this means is that a successful candidate would be employed as either a Qualified or Unqualified Learning Support Worker. During the selection process, candidates will be assessed to determine whether they meet the person specification criteria of the qualified or unqualified Learning Support Worker role. This would determine the salary/rate of pay, as well as what duties would be expected of the post holder during their employment. 9. Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1. per hour
10. Temporary Part Time post for 12.0 Hours per Week, 39 weeks per year, plus 6.24 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday to be taken during school holidays.
11. Temporary contract for a period of approximately 12 months.
