Senior Physiotherapist / Advanced Physiotherapist
The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and flexible Paediatric Physiotherapist to join the cardiothoracic physiotherapy team. This is an exciting opportunity for an existing Band 6 or Band 7 Physiotherapist to work into Paediatric Cardiology within the Acute Paediatric Physiotherapy team at the Freeman Hospital. Candidates should have extensive paediatric physiotherapy experience and knowledge.
We appreciate that cardiothoracics is a niche and highly specialised area of paediatric physiotherapy; therefore, it is challenging to gain the essential skills and experience vital to achieve an advanced physiotherapist post within this area. We have devised a development post within the team to support a specialist physiotherapist (Band 6) to develop their skills in the cardiothoracic domain and achieve vital competencies over an 18-month period. On achieving these competencies, they will pass through the gateway and become an advanced paediatric physiotherapist (Band 7) in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy. Where a candidate has extensive experience and can demonstrate that they already meet the Band 7 cardiothoracic competencies, they may be appointed at an advanced level.
* Interview Date: 9th October 2024
* 22.5 hours/week
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work to provide highly specialised physiotherapy care within the paediatric cardiorespiratory service based at the Freeman Hospital. The Freeman Hospital is a regional and national centre of excellence for cardiorespiratory care, and the successful applicant will work as part of a team to deliver care within this complex specialty area.
Holistic assessment skills and treatment are essential to meet the MSK, neuro, and respiratory needs of this patient group, including those who are ventilated, in end-stage heart failure, those requiring mechanical cardiac support and ECMO, as well as children admitted for cardiac or lung surgery.
Roles and responsibilities include:
1. Providing a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment, and advice to a highly complex and varied patient group, their carers, and families, accessing acute Paediatric services.
2. Being an active member of the appropriate specialty MDTs within the directorate and wider Trust.
3. Being responsible for own continued professional development and assisting CPD of other members of the physiotherapy and multidisciplinary teams.
4. Being part of the emergency duty on-call and weekend rota and being available in an advisory capacity for on-call physiotherapists out of hours when required.

Job responsibilities
As a development post, the main duties of the job will vary depending on the level of experience and skill. The expectation would be that the successful candidate will initially undertake Band 6 responsibilities, then after 18 months of support, training, development, and experience, they will be able to fulfil the competencies/responsibilities listed at Band 7 level to allow for permanent progression into this advanced paediatric physiotherapist role.
