The BCHFT pharmacy team are looking for Band 8a Lead Pharmacist for our Dudley and Walsall localities. This exciting post will appeal to a pharmacist looking for a challenge in developing, leading and providing clinical pharmacy services.
This post is a part time opportunity based on a 4 days per week 28 hours per week, based at our in-patient sites in Dudley (Bushey Fields) and Walsall (Dorothy Pattison Hospital).
Our service operates Monday to Friday and there is no expectation to take part in on-call, evenings and weekend rotas.
You will be a member of the trust Senior Pharmacy Team and be expected to take the lead on a number of projects as well as contributing to the development of clinical pharmacy services across the Trust.
Main Duties of the Job
This is a specialist post and the post holder will already have a post graduate qualification in mental health pharmacy in order to lead and provide a specialist clinical service. The postholder will be qualified or willing to undertake funded training in Independent Prescribing.
The post holder is professionally and managerially responsible for the provision and development of a professional and progressive pharmaceutical service in line with professional and national guidelines.
To be responsible for providing high quality, safe, cost effective medicines management.
The post-holder may provide a prescribing function as part of their role, where appropriate.
To be responsible for development and implementation of local audits, policy and procedures to ensure medicines management operates safely, effectively and efficiently.
To provide professional advice and pharmaceutical support to the clinical teams and partner services. To support the development of quality initiatives that address identified prescribing and medicines management issues, including those that cross interfaces.
To have direct management responsibility for staff.

Job Responsibilities
1. Provide highly specialist advice concerning patient care in relation to medicines management.
2. To be responsible for ensuring compliance with the local formulary, promote cost effective prescribing, and monitor the introduction of new medicines.
3. Address issues identified as a result of Department of Health / National body reports & recommendations. This may involve liaising with other pharmacists and healthcare staff.
4. Promote team involvement in support of self-medication processes for patients.
5. Develop and oversee delivery of induction/training sessions to healthcare professionals, (e.g. doctors) in relation to medicines management.
6. Assist, advise and escalate formulary issues and support formulary applications within their specialist area as appropriate.
7. Monitor prescribing and associated costs to ensure the appropriate use of medicines. To investigate or escalate issues as deemed necessary.
8. To be involved in the development of new services where appropriate as part of service delivery. (e.g. SLA, service redesign, workforce changes etc.)
9. The post holder will be required to travel between Trust locations where appropriate, and may be required to rotate across the localities/sites.
10. To undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager.
