Children's Speech & Language Therapy Assistant

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant with enthusiasm for and experience of working with children with Speech, Language, and Communication needs. This role is to work within both the preschool and special school teams in Warwickshire. We have established teams of speech and language therapists and therapy assistants who work within special schools/early years settings.
The post holder will be part of a supportive team including other therapy assistants and therapists. The role involves following treatment plans with children and parents/other professionals, making and disseminating resources, and supporting therapists with training.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Provide support to Speech and Language Therapists in the delivery of services to children across Warwickshire.
2. Deliver packages of care to children across the county.
3. Develop high-quality resources for interventions.
4. Supervise less experienced staff.
Job Responsibilities
Clinical
1. Independently undertake therapy programmes designed by therapists with periodic liaison as agreed.
2. Organise and maintain therapy resources within the department.
3. Provide practical support with technical equipment for SLTs as required.
4. Assist SLTs in the preparation and delivery of training packages.
5. Assess children's responses to treatment and maintain detailed records.
6. Manage children's behavior and motivate them to achieve positive therapy outcomes.
7. Provide routine advice and support related to therapy programmes for parents as appropriate.
Professional
1. Maintain clinical and non-clinical standards within policy frameworks.
2. Participate in clinical supervision in line with Department and Trust policy.
3. Monitor stock levels and request new equipment as appropriate.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE level A - C in English and Maths or equivalent.
* Minimum Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
* Care Certificate or willingness to work towards it.
* Basic Makaton.
Experience
* Significant experience of working with children with communication difficulties.
* Experience of working with Speech & Language Therapists.
* Experience of supervising staff in the workplace.
Skills
* Demonstrate knowledge of speech and language therapy procedures.
* Good time management and organizational skills.
Personal Qualities
* Excellent communication skills and interpersonal abilities.
* Ability to work independently and adapt to various environments.
Other Requirements
* Car driver and current licence holder.
* Police Check and Occupational Health Check.
* Able to carry equipment and adapt to a range of physical environments.
