To work across the North West Cluster of Prisons assessing patients at risk of and/or diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection and/or a Blood Borne Virus. Working within a small dedicated Sexual Health team case managing from assessment of patients to testing, treatment, education and harm minimisation. Provide pre and post test discussion for Blood Borne Viruses and see clients in the prison GUM setting for crisis intervention and time limited counselling. To take on project work to improve health promotion across all sites and support in training for wider nursing teams. The post holder will be required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team under the clinical supervision of the Sexual Health Team Lead with support from GUM/CASH Consultant. Provide information and health education for clients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections and blood borne viruses. To liaise with the appropriate authorities to facilitate partner notification/management/referral to GUM community clinics as required. Provide initial crisis intervention, counselling and appropriate referral for those clients attending the clinic with relevant problems, e.g. termination of pregnancy, sexual identity, sexual assault, substance misuse and sexual dysfunction. Attend multidisciplinary meetings as required with other related health professionals. Offer information and support and deal with enquiries from health professionals about Sexually Transmitted Infections, including HIV and AIDS. Due to the specialist nature of this service, a non-judgemental and positive attitude is necessary. To develop and maintain effective communication and liaison with medical, nursing and paramedical members of staff and working in close co-operation for the benefit of patients in order to improve services at the Clinic and STI services in general.
