Consultant in Ophthalmology Special Interest Vitreoretinal Surgery
This job is a substantive post for a Consultant in Ophthalmology. The job is a full-time post comprising of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), with two theatre sessions per week. The main base will be Frimley Park Hospital, but there may be clinics at other sites within Frimley Health. The post holder will play a key role in realizing our ambition to build a high-quality glaucoma service by bringing new skills to our ophthalmology. The successful applicant will be a committed clinician with subspecialist skills in vitreoretinal surgery (VR) and a track record of excellent clinical service delivery, service improvement, teaching, training, and other qualities as identified in the person specification. An interest in research and experience in HVLC cataract surgery lists is also desirable.
Main Duties of the Job
The Eye Treatment Centre at Frimley Park Hospital is equipped with 16 consulting rooms and twin ophthalmic theatres. Outpatient and theatre facilities will also be available at our new hospital build at Heatherwood Hospital, Ascot.
The successful applicant will join a team of 11 consultants in the Frimley Park ophthalmic department, providing a comprehensive service to the wider community. The post holder will have a job plan comprising of glaucoma clinics and surgical sessions.
1:10 on-call rota.
One half day per month is dedicated to Audit and Teaching during which time all routine work is suspended. All staff are expected to attend, with the exception of those providing emergency cover.
All members of the Department are encouraged to take study leave and will be expected to fulfill CPD and revalidation requirements. Teamwork and good communication skills are essential.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements
* Full GMC registration
* FRCOphth or equivalent
* GMC Specialist Registration
* Innovative thinking
* Energy to enthuse and motivate others
* A wide grounding during training in all aspects of Ophthalmology
* Willingness to be involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate as necessary
* Understand principles and participate in audit activity and demonstrate experience of evidence-based practice
* Live within ten miles or thirty minutes travelling time of Frimley Hospital
* Higher qualifications
* Flexibility and experience of subspecialty clinics including Glaucoma, Retinal Laser, AMD, and Paediatrics
* Previous experience in teaching and training
