An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitable person to join our friendly & innovative team as a Podiatry/Foot care Assistant.
Although it would be desirable to have a background in healthcare, we will consider all applicants who demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop.
You will work single handed or as part of a team, liaising with appropriate members of the Podiatry team in relation to service delivery and patient care. You will be required to work in a variety of settings including Health Centres, GP surgeries, residential and nursing homes, and patient’s own homes.
The primary role of the Assistant will be to undertake Diabetic Foot Assessments for patients living with Diabetes. This will involve checking the blood flow to the feet and sensation. You will be expected to provide health education advice to patients of all ages and abilities. Full training will be provided, and you will be supported by a Mentor.
You will be enthusiastic, willing to learn and have excellent interpersonal skills. You must be able to communicate effectively to ensure that the patient receives the best care and advice possible.
Good IT skills are essential as the role will involve regular use of computer-based clinical systems.
We offer an excellent clinical supervision programme, strong peer support and a range of development and CPD opportunities. Training can be supported to enable a successful candidate to become a qualified Podiatry Assistant.

1. To work single handed, or as part of a multi professional team, liaising with appropriate members of the Podiatry teams in relation to service delivery and patient care.
2. To be responsible for planning, managing and implementation of their own caseload.
3. To maintain the highest possible professional standards in line with departmental policies; identifying improvements where necessary.
4. Participation in departmental development including the implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
5. Participation in research and development, clinical audits and student placements as directed by Podiatry management.
6. To be responsible for the day to day monitoring and maintenance of clinical standards including equipment, supplies and health and safety; liaising with clinical staff, podiatry staff and podiatry team leaders as appropriate.
7. To provide statistical information on a daily basis using recording sheets for SystmOne.
8. To undertake Diabetic Foot Checks for those patients with Diabetes, using a doppler and monofilament and providing Health Education as appropriate.
Extensive regular travel across the district is a requirement of the role in order to successfully undertake the range of duties specified within the job description.
