AIT Mechanical Engineer
+ 12 month contract
+ £30-35 per hour
+ Onsite in Stevenage
Key Skills:
1. Mechanical experience from spacecraft or aircraft.
2. Experience in integrating avionics on a spacecraft.
3. Familiar with handling and lifting large spacecraft.
4. System test experience.
5. Hands-on system level experience (not looking for design engineer).
To provide AIT Mechanical Engineering support involving writing processes, plans, and procedures in 3D Experience for the production of satellites and payloads. Involved in supporting hardware assembly on the satellite such as black boxes, solar array, and structure panels. Supporting satellite environmental testing at the test facility.
Responsibilities
Project Preparation Phase:
1. Support to the customisation phase starting at the project kick-off.
2. Support project DMU (Digital mock-up/design for manufacture) sessions to ensure design for manufacture.
3. Support in the creation of documentation required for the production phases, including ACS inputs, work instructions, and procedures.
4. Lead the installation of satellite appendages and applicable integration flows and preparation.
5. Support the definition of MGSE for use on the satellite and support procurement activities.
6. Support process owner team in all aspects of their role.
Project Operational Phase:
1. Support to AIT lead engineering team in periods of high workload.
2. Support process owners with observation resolution and operational activities.
3. Oversee unit installation activities on the satellite.
4. Support quality reviews, conduct PFMEA and root cause analysis.
5. Support in the creation of re-work instructions based on project requirements and identify parts and tooling required to carry them out.
Non Project:
1. Design of tooling/build aids for assembly execution.
2. Support to R&D.
3. Training module creation and maintenance.
4. Responsible for ensuring that our working modes and processes are standardised, optimised, and current.
Produce new processes, undertake process improvement and maintenance, and monitor process implementation in operations.
Essential:
1. High mechanical skills and relevant experience.
2. Writing procedures and process control.
3. Practical and proactive.
4. Quality driven approach with high attention to detail.
5. Knowledge and experience in the production of high quality documentation (test specs, test plans, test procedures, AIT Plans, DDV plans).
6. High self-motivation and ability to deal with changing priorities on a multi-project basis.
7. Good problem-solving skills (technical, logistics, and organisational).
8. Good planning skills and process competence (MRP system experience an advantage).
9. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
10. Appreciation of satellite integration processes and project phases.
