Company Overview
Angus Dundee is a family-owned business with its head office in London. It operates two Scottish Single Malt Whisky Distilleries, Tomintoul and Glencadam. Both distilleries have on site maturation warehouses and the capability of filling / emptying casks and preparing and dispatching bulk whisky in road tanker. These operations are complimented by a production complex in Coatbridge which houses a large multi-line bottling operation, in addition to this there are maturation warehouses, bulk blending and whisky preparation facilities. The operational support staff are based there together with the brand marketing team.
The company has invested heavily in recent years in additional operational assets. It is also developing a Visitor Centre at Glencadam Distillery which is due to open in mid-2025 to coincide with the distillery’s 200th anniversary.
Position Overview
The Glencadam Distillery Manager is responsible for all aspects of the safe operation and management of Glencadam Distillery, ensuring the distillery delivers against all stakeholder expectations.
This role involves managing all operational aspects of the distillery and blend centre, supervising staff, managing budgets and developing positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will possess, strong, numeracy, technical and leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, strong financial awareness and a demonstrable track record of managing complex processes.
Glencadam Distillery visitor Centre also operates within the same site. A close working relationship is essential with the VC Manager to ensure both operations work together seamlessly.
Management Skills
People
* Manage the distillery team, to include objective setting, performance reviews, training and development & attendance management.
* Manage and further increase skills flexibility across the team.
* Identify and develop future Distillery Managers.
Safety
* Understand personal and team responsibility under Health and Safety legislation and promote safe working practices within the team.
* Reinforce correct EHS behaviours through personal example in all daily operations.
* Develop a strong understanding of current best practice in Process Safety and embed these practices in operating procedures.
Performance - KPIs
* Meet delivery requirements of internal and external customers, on time & in full
* Sustainability & Environmental focus on water usage, GHG, abstraction and discharge consents.
* Ensure that the Distillery achieves annual output targets.
* Ensure customer orders are completed and dispatched in accordance with works orders.
Compliance
* Adhere to all HMRC regulations, capturing all transactions accurately on the appropriate business reports.
* Ensure compliance to ISO Standards.
* Adherence to SEPA abstraction and discharge consents.
Quality
* Maintain Company quality standards – ensuring production of the highest quality NMS.
Finance
* Oversee and approve the monthly payroll and holiday/absence reporting.
* Oversee and approve the distillery operational expenditure.
* Develop and deploy the operational budget in line with approved plans.
* Assume ownership for assets under distillery control, including new investment proposals and maintenance of existing assets.
* Preparation of capital expenditure proposals for process development.
Personal Skills
Experience
* A detailed understanding of the product and production processes
* Accountable for the quality and consistency of the NMS spirit throughout the distilling process.
* Provide technical leadership for the design, installation and maintenance of all processes and equipment across the distillery.
* Maintain organoleptic standards, specifications and processes for distillation and NMS that will deliver consistency and excellence.
* Close association with peers within Angus Dundee to ensure only top-quality raw materials are used in the distillation process.
* Drive Safety, Quality and Sustainability standards across Glencadam Distillery operations teams.
