Job description
We are currently looking to recruit a Highways Supervisor to work on our Hampshire Highways contract in Totton. As a Supervisor you will be part of our Operations Team who are responsible for delivering highways maintenance activity on behalf of Hampshire County Council.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Be responsible for the day to day running of your Depot by providing line management to our key team (Depot Coordinator and Store Person) as well as Operatives, this includes setting clear performance objectives, undertaking periodic reviews and ensuring Our Ways of Working meets both company and contractual standards.
2. Leading by example to create a cohesive and effective team who work together to deliver the work, safely and to time and cost. Establish excellent working relationships with scheduling and commercial teams to improve Depot outputs thus contributing to the success of our Contract.
3. Ensure your Depot is fully compliant with all Health, Safety, Environmental and Welfare legislation and ensure Quality and Best Practise standards achieved by promoting the use of ITPs, benchmarks, Company Procedures, safety briefing and effective communication.
4. Ensure any SHE incidents are thoroughly investigated, reports and information collated and learning shared across the team and business.
5. Build a strong, collaborative working relationship with the Client through DRAB meetings and regular discussion about the work, workstack and budget. Understand the Contract in both Option E and Option A arrangements and work with the Client to help manage their budget and deliver a great service to Hampshire Highways.
6. Work closely with the Commercial team to ensure you understand your numbers published weekly in the depot Cost & Value report and be prepared to outline key challenges and opportunities for improvement
7. Be part of the standby rota for Winter Maintenance Service and/or Emergency response (OOHs) service. Support the business in the delivery of these services.
8. Run regular meetings with Supervisors and the Scheduling team to ensure works is being programmed efficiently and Safety Defects are not being delayed. Provide guidance and support where required.
9. Work with the training coordinator to ensure training courses are well attended, help minimise 'no shows' and agree when early retraining is advisable to make training as efficient as possible.
10. Develop skills, knowledge and competence to support the business Appointments Matrix or another key area that will promote improvement to the contract and enhance the business reputation (for example Traffic Management expertise, Materials and Specifications, Carbon Strategy etc).
11. Mentor apprentices under our apprenticeship scheme
12. Flexible in all types of work including covering other supervisors and supporting other Depots when required.
Essential Skills & Experience:
13. Good working knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation applicable to our industry.
14. Experience within Highways industry and knowledge of Sector Schemes and NRSWA. Should hold SSSTS and CSCS (Supervisor).
15. Commercially driven with the ability to identify value add and how operational performance contributes to overall business performance whilst simultaneously considering client expectations and value for money.
16. Exhibit role model behaviours and strives to create an effective, hardworking team that together, deliver excellent customer service.
17. Build great working relationships with the Customer taking an open and collaborative approach.
18. Good IT skills (O365) and ability to use work management systems and reports to understand the workstack, budget and target set by the business.
19. Excellent organisational and time management skills with demonstrable experience of successfully managing conflicting priorities.
20. Ownership of issues and matters affecting your Team and Depot. Use listening and communication skills to good effect and getting positive outcomes.
21. The ability to remain flexible, embrace change and help deliver business led changes and initiatives in a positive manner.
