Clinical Nurse Specialist – Young onset and atypical dementia

The cognitive neurology team are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Band 7 nurse for the Clinic Nurse Specialist position working within their service to cover maternity leave until January 2026.This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in a cutting-edge cognitive neurology team focused on the care of people with young onset dementia as well as rarer forms of dementia. Working within agreed protocols and guidelines the post holder exercises independent judgement to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan,implement and evaluate the clinical care and management of patients in conjunction with the cognitive disorders multidisciplinary team. They work alongside and support the education and development of both nursing and medicalcolleagues as well other members of the MDT.The post holder will promote the concept of clinical governance and facilitate the implementation of the UCLH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and work within agreed UCLH Foundation Trust/Unit protocols and guidelines.
Main duties of the job
The main elements of the role are reviewing patients in MDT clinics, providing post-diagnostic support, initiating and reviewing medications and providing ongoing support to patients and carers by telephone between face-to-face appointments and referring to and liaising with primary care colleagues when appropriate.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Adult or Mental Health)
* Honours Degree in Nursing, research or ethics
* Completed/completing Masters Degree
* Advanced communication skills
* Teaching/Assessment programme
Experience
* Minimum 3 years relevant post registration experience in same specialty at a band 6 or above
* Demonstrates up to date knowledge and expertise in the specialty
* Evidence of developing & leading nurse led clinics / services
* Evidence of ability to work collaboratively autonomously
* Knowledge of key professional issues and NMC guidelines relating to professional practice
* Able to respond appropriately to accident or untoward clinical incidents
* Participate in and comply with UCLH, and Divisional clinical governance frameworks
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Previous experience of formal & informal teaching of patients & staff
* Skills in critical analysis and application of research to practice
* Previous experience of developing standards, guidelines and policies
* Experience in acting as a clinical supervisor and mentor
* Previous experience in audit and evaluation of practice / services
* Published articles / poster presentations
* Previous experience in budgetary management
