About the School
We are a busy, fully inclusive one-form entry Primary School with a SEND Unit and a Nursery. We are a successful and happy school and have talented and highly committed staff, supportive governors and amazing pupils. There is a powerful air of optimism about our School; the journey we are travelling is an exciting one for all. We are looking for an experienced SEND Teacher who will be responsible for delivering and coordinating the daily teaching, planning, assessment and pastoral care for a group of pupils with communication and interaction learning needs, including Autism. Our SEND Provision has thirty children across three discrete classes, based on stage rather than age. The classes enable the delivery of the curriculum, which has three main elements: informal, semi-formal and formal. The curriculum in each class focuses heavily on helping the children become more independent. The informal curriculum encompasses four areas of learning: Communication and Language, Physical Development, Community, Cognition and Learning. The Semi-formal Curriculum, which the majority of our SEND Unit pupils follow, encompasses the following areas of learning: Communication, Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Physical Development, How the World Works (Including Science & Technology), Community (including PSHE, Humanities), Creativity (Including Art and Music). The formal curriculum starts to incorporate the National Curriculum Programmes of study at a level appropriate to their ability. Curriculum content from all Key Stages is assessed for its appropriateness to the pupils. The teacher will work closely with the school SENDCo and report to the Headteacher as well as liaise with local authorities and external agencies to support the varying learning and pastoral needs of the pupils. Experience of working with children and young people who have communication and interaction difficulties, and/or those with Autism, is an essential requirement.
About the Role
We are seeking to recruit an excellent practitioner with a sound knowledge and understanding of communication and interaction learning difficulties and early childhood development, who want to make a positive difference to the lives of children and their families. Teachers should be dynamic in their approach to making learning fun and accessible for all pupils. The successful candidate will work with a talented and friendly staff team who are both forward thinking and innovative, and who have high expectations of themselves and the pupils they support. Our Phoenix school values are about being resilient, resourceful, responsible, reflective and restorative, and our four rules are: Ready, Respect, Safe and Trust, which apply to everyone in our school community. Our teachers must be excellent role models of these values and always lead by example when working with children, staff, parents and carers. Our Phoenix motto is ‘Where we rise to the challenge’ and the Phoenix children and staff do this on a daily basis, which makes Phoenix an extremely rewarding and enjoyable place to work. Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment to keeping children safe.
