Bright Technologies are looking for a Product Design Apprentice to complete a Level 6 Product Design & Development Engineer apprenticeship and join their design and technical team.
Over the last couple of years, we have seen an increase in demand for our products and services, not only in the UK but overseas, and as a result the design teams’ workload is increasing. We foresee this continuing, so we want to be prepared, from a staff perspective, for the future. As this growth continues we are looking for someone to support our current design team.
Although we are a small company we carry out many different processes from design, manufacture and installation. Therefore it is difficult to find employees who can adapt to everything. We believe that employing an apprentice is the best fit for our company as an apprentice can become involved in all aspects from the start. We already have apprentices in other roles within the company (manufacturing). One of our senior designers started off as an apprentice at 16 and has been with us for over 15 years! Our most recent apprentice won Sheffield’s college apprentice of the year.
Role & Responsibilities:
* Learn to design and develop new and bespoke products and solutions
* Work with senior design staff on larger projects
* Design simple products under the supervision of senior design staff
* Work to established design practices and protocols for example ISO 90001: 2015
* Work with the engineering and manufacturing team to understand the important elements of productions, and how they influence the design process
Skills Required:
* IT skills / familiarity with CAD
* Some limited ability in operating machine shop equipment
* Basic understanding of engineering techniques
Personal Qualities the Candidate Must Have:
* Flexible and cooperative attitude combined with a strong work ethic
* Capable of working on your own initiative as well as part of a close team

The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.
