Job Overview
As a Photonic Characterisation Engineer at Salience Labs, you will play a vital role in our mission to develop active photonic switches for large-scale systems. Working within our Engineering team, you will gain hands-on experience in photonic and electronic laboratory environments, performing component characterisation, developing automated test setups, and supporting product validation. This is an excellent opportunity to build your career in an innovative field with strong mentorship and on-the-job training.
️What you'll be doing
* Developing and bringing up manual and automated test setups to verify the performance of silicon photonics devices and packaged modules.
* Creating and executing test plans based on product specifications, component simulations, fabrication process reports, and failure analysis reports.
* Performing electrical and optical testing tasks, coding test software, and collecting and analysing test data.
* Designing and maintaining automated test tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
* Assessing testing errors from different sources of variation, including equipment, cable connections, and I/O coupling/contact.
* Supporting failure analysis by conducting internal testing or working with external service providers.
* Assisting in transitioning test stations from design verification to high-volume production testing.
* Managing testing schedules and queues, reporting lead times for various testing tasks.
What we're looking for
* A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, or Optical Engineering.
* 1+ years of relevant experience (if you're a recent graduate with hands-on optical testing experience please also feel free to apply ).
* Strong understanding of waveguide and semiconductor device testing systems.
* Experience in automation software (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar).
* Proficiency in data extraction and analysis (Python, MATLAB, JMP, Minitab, Excel with VB).
* Hands-on experience with free-space or fibre-coupled optical testing systems, IV/CV/RF electrical testing systems.
* Excellent communication skills, critical thinking, attention to detail, and self-motivation.
Even better if you
* Have knowledge of waveguides, multiplexers/demultiplexers, tapers, grating couplers, and modulators.
* Are experienced in statistical data analysis.
* Understand semiconductor manufacturing processes and technology.
* Have worked with high-speed optoelectronic device design and characterisation.
* Are familiar with lab testing equipment such as lasers, high-speed detectors, AWGs, oscilloscopes, optical spectrum analysers, and precision positioning stages.
* Have industry experience in PICs, semiconductor lasers, photodetectors, or modulators.
This is a unique opportunity to grow your career in photonic characterisation while working alongside experts in an exciting and rapidly evolving field. If you're passionate about cutting-edge technology, we'd love to hear from you!
