Purpose:
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Cheese/organic Dairy Maker to join our dynamic team. As our Cheese Maker, you will be responsible for producing high-quality artisan cheeses while maintaining the highest standards of production, hygiene, and efficiency. This is a hands-on role that requires both technical expertise and creativity in crafting our organic dairy products.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Lead the team to ensure our production systems and processes keep people and food safe; maintain records to evidence the effectiveness of our systems and processes in doing so.
* Ensure products are safety tested and results acted upon appropriately.
* Develop and assure implementation/effectiveness of HACCPs.
* Stock control – keeping production tracking up to date (spreadsheet), using this to organise the micro-testing, getting the samples prepared for the testing (this is paperwork and labelling), keeping track of results coming back in.
* Lead the team to produce a variety of cheeses according to recipes and industry best practices.
* Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained appropriately to provide smooth operations with as little interruption as possible.
* Ensure purchase and sales data are maintained and evidenced to provide a clear rationale behind decision-making procedures and the future direction of the Creamery.
* Provide excellent customer service for internal and external customers, including taking orders and organising couriers.
* Cutting, wrapping and boxing cheeses for a variety of customers.
* Recruit, induct, integrate and train new staff.
* Line Manage the Creamery team, ensuring clear and effective communication and that team members are supported to achieve job satisfaction and success in their roles.
* Conduct supervision and annual appraisals.
Person Specification:
Essential:
* Food safety practices and regulation training.
* Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety, including allergen management and labelling.
* HACCP for Manufacturing.
* The role requires some basic maths for calculations and measuring.
* Previous experience of working in a supervisory/accountable position within a creamery or relevant food production/processing unit.
* Practical, logical nature and experience of working with machinery, ideally in a food production environment.
Desirable:
* Cheese Academy Qualifications.
* SALSA accreditation experience.
* Cheese/dairy-related courses/qualifications.
* Working with adults with learning disabilities, mental health issues or autism.
