An opportunity has arisen for a Workshop Technician to perform the machining and preparation of test specimens at our Materials Testing Laboratory based in Bristol. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about hands-on technical engineering. We are seeking someone who wants to learn new skills and techniques within a growing and supportive business.
Responsibilities
1. Sectioning components received into the laboratory using abrasive cutting machines and prepare samples using automated and manual polishing techniques.
2. Work to documented procedures in accordance with required specifications for materials testing and analysis.
3. Marking up of components from client drawings / schematics ready for sectioning.
4. Ensure work is carried out to a high standard.
5. Manage personal workloads to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner and within targets.
6. Ensure equipment is well maintained and report faults to senior personnel.
7. Work with experienced members of the team to develop improvements in sample preparation techniques.
8. Maintain and order stock for the preparation area.
9. Maintain 5S and HSE checks for the sample preparation area.
Key Relationships
Report to Senior Technicians / Laboratory Manager to agree tasks and priorities.
Required Skills and Experience
1. Basic IT literacy skills.
2. Willingness to learn new skills and techniques.
3. Basic machining knowledge advantageous but not essential as full training will be given.
4. Basic knowledge of materials and machining techniques.
