Job Title: Classroom Assistant Location: Carmarthenshire Contract Type: Full-time, Term-Time Only Salary: £89.38 About the Role: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Classroom Assistant to join our vibrant and supportive primary school team. The ideal candidate will be flexible, proactive, and confident in supporting both general class cover and small group interventions. This role is perfect for someone with experience working with young children, especially in literacy (Read Write Inc.) and numeracy (Maths), and who is skilled in managing challenging behaviour. As a Classroom Assistant, your responsibilities will include: General Class Cover: Supporting the class teacher in day-to-day activities and ensuring a smooth learning environment. Small Group Interventions: Leading small groups for Read Write Inc. and Maths interventions to help improve literacy and numeracy skills. Behaviour Management: Managing and supporting children with challenging behaviour, using positive reinforcement strategies to encourage good behaviour and promote learning. One-on-One Support: Providing additional assistance to students who may require extra help with their learning. Monitoring and Recording Progress: Keeping track of student progress and reporting back to the teacher, especially for children receiving additional support. Key Responsibilities: Assist in delivering lessons, activities, and interventions. Work with individual students or small groups to support their learning and development. Support students with additional needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum. Manage disruptive or challenging behaviour in a calm and constructive manner. Provide feedback to teachers on student progress and behaviour. Help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. Skills & Experience: Previous experience working with children in a classroom or educational setting, ideally in a primary school environment. Strong knowledge of literacy and numeracy, including experience in supporting Read Write Inc. and Maths interventions. Confidence in dealing with challenging behaviour and disruptive students in a positive and calm manner. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with students and staff. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Patience, flexibility, and a passion for helping children achieve their best. Desirable: Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent). Experience with additional learning needs (ALN) or special educational needs (SEN).
