At International House London, we are thrilled to invite you to join our team for the upcoming summer season. We operate summer centres designed to provide students, aged 8 to 17, from around the world with a unique English-language learning experience alongside a specially curated Activity programme. As a member of our summer team, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and safety of our students throughout their stay. What is the role of the EFL teacher?
An EFL teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality lessons for our students. It is a dynamic position which will also involve some pastoral care duties and supporting Activity leaders with running Activities. You might also be required to go on excursions with the students or help with registering students for arrivals/departure.
What does a typical day look like?
Lesson days: Students have lessons in the morning, six days a week. After lessons, EFL teachers might be scheduled to assist Activity leaders in running the Activity programme (which usually starts at 2pm and consists of three activities in the afternoon/evening). You might also be required to help with pastoral duties.
Excursion days: Students have one full-day and one half-day excursion per week. You might be on the rota to go on an excursion with the students if it is not your day off (teachers day off can only be excursion day or arrival/departure day). On excursion, you will need to show the students around the attractions but will receive an excursion pack with all the necessary information.
Arrival/departure day: Students always arrive/depart on Wednesdays. You might be asked to help with registering new students or taking them to their rooms or giving a site tour. Students who are staying for the following week will have holding lessons in the morning which some teachers will have to teach.
What skills do I need to do this job?
* CELTA qualification or equivalent
* A passion for teaching and working with children
* Excellent organisational skills, punctuality and reliability
* Good knowledge of dynamic classroom activities for Young learners (or the willingness to learn if a newly qualified teacher)
What training will I receive?
An EFL teacher will receive a comprehensive induction from the Director of Studies regarding the academic programme. You will also receive regular Professional development sessions as part of the course (run by the Director of Studies, senior teacher or Assistant Director of Studies). Summer school is also a great way to learn from your peers as we have many returning staff who have a wealth of experience and are always happy to share their experiences and ideas.

Hours of Work: Your normal hours of work are up to 36 per week over a six-day week, to be agreed depending on availability and centre requirements. This position involves working on weekends and other unsocial hours. Non-residential teachers may opt out of participating in the social programme and, instead, work 15 hours over five days teaching mornings only.
What will happen before the camp starts?
* There will be induction and training e.g. health and safety, safeguarding, PREVENT
* You will be sent the staff manuals, policies and procedures
* You will have DBS checks
What will happen during the camp?
* Deliver high-quality lessons for students and collaborate with peers
* Assist with pastoral duties where necessary
* Attend professional development sessions/staff meetings
* Support Activity leaders running Activities/ assist with excursions/ registering students when they arrive
* Assist with student supervision where necessary
What will happen at the end of the camp?
* Assist with departures of students as required by the Centre Management team
* Check return of all equipment/pack up classroom/teachers room
* Help to pack up the centre
