The opportunity:
As an integral part of the WestRock PM&A group’s future success, reporting to the Engineering Manager (Controls), the Controls Engineer will be responsible for developing the electrical design and controls service/support of new and existing equipment design integrations, including production support activities into the manufacturing environment through its life cycle, from initial concept through to final product/process release. Supporting improvement of existing product ranges offering improvements and cost-down investigations and optimizing lean manufacturing processes through design or process enhancements.
How you will impact WestRock:
1. Develop and document software programs ensuring the company structure for programs is always followed
2. Produce and manage all HMI and operation manuals on time and update with changes during the test period
3. Assist in the testing of machines as required to ensure they meet the customer requirements and company standards
4. Produce and manage bills of materials for new projects ensuring these are within budget and meet the customer and company specifications
5. Proactively pursue personal development
6. Provide full support across the business to meet company and OKR targets/objectives and direct customer solutions where applicable
7. Lead electrical design details and software controls solutions, using software and partnerships to develop/improve tooling electrical software design whilst maintaining tooling design records and changes
8. Support the management and development of product legislation and product marking compliance
9. Provide accurate quotes to project management for potential improvements through manufacturing lean efforts, manufacturing timings, controls upgrades, any tooling, jigs, or fixtures costs
10. Support, coach, and mentor apprentice staff, working closely with other business areas such as Design & Manufacturing to ensure customer requirements are achieved in terms of delivery schedule, cost, and quality through innovative uses of internal and external resources
11. Work with Purchasing & suppliers ensuring technical, manufacturing, and quality aspects are monitored through equipment assembly development
12. Take direct feedback from staff to improve electrical and/or controls designs supporting additional upgrades/servicing after production release
13. Drive and promote ongoing Lean Manufacturing techniques and work with the site to implement improvements for more effective equipment integration (e.g., 5S, TIMWOODS)
14. Improve Controls team 5S process for Westrock site, initiating site changes, updating layouts and plans
15. Create and maintain Controls Process Documents, Test and Inspection processes and drawings, supporting with DCN (Documents Change Notification) activity
What you need to succeed:
1. PLC experience required, on multiple platforms
2. Robotics experience
3. Project Management experience
4. Effective communication, influencing, and persuasive skills
5. Understanding of electromechanical design for manufacture and assembly using CAD systems
6. Knowledge of machine directives and H&S standards
7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs
