Rate: PAYE: £19.53 per hour | Limited/Umbrella: £24.54 per hour

About the Role:
Elmbridge Borough Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Debt Recovery Assistant to join our Finance team on a temporary basis. This role is crucial in supporting our Debt Recovery Officer in the efficient collection of outstanding debts. Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Debt Recovery Officer in the collection of outstanding debts across three key areas: Local Taxation, Housing Benefits Overpayments, and Sundry Debt Recovery.
Control and reconcile financial systems related to debt recovery.
Provide assistance, advice, and training as required to ensure effective debt collection processes.
Pursue the recovery of debts in accordance with the Council's Corporate Debt Policy.
Respond to all customer enquiries via email, phone, or in person at reception, negotiating appropriate repayment arrangements.
Collaborate with external partner debt collection agencies, ensuring timely referral and ongoing liaison, including managing Attachment of Earnings orders.
Manage and oversee direct debit arrangements for debt repayments.
Requirements:
Experience in debt recovery, particularly in Local Taxation, Housing Benefits Overpayments, and Sundry Debt Recovery.
Strong understanding of financial systems control and reconciliation.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle customer enquiries and negotiate repayment plans.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Experience in collaborating with external debt collection agencies.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
