Role: Business Director Location: Nottingham, England, United Kingdom About the role: This is a pivotal role, working across some of OLIVER’s flagship regional accounts, based out of our Nottingham Hub. Working in partnership with clients, the OLIVER client teams, the OLIVER UK SLT and other agencies, the Business Director is accountable for the strategic direction, creative excellence, client relationship, commercials, and all output of the OLIVER client teams. Whoever fills this role understands the complexities around working as part of a large organisation within a fast-paced environment. The work is varied, and the right person will need to straddle multiple marketing disciplines every day, championing and encouraging the very best creative work across in store, digital and brand marketing. We are looking for a strong strategic thinker who works closely with the client as a long-term business partner; steering the development of their brand and marketing strategy and able to build lasting relationships with clients at all levels – from the CMO down. Reporting to the Executive Client Partnership Director, the Business Director oversees the team of Nottingham-based employees. The Nottingham team is comprised of creative and account leads working alongside client teams, both onsite and at the OLIVER Nottingham office. Whilst the team sits within OLIVER UK, they are an embedded part of the client teams. This means that you’ll be responsible for running your own ‘mini-agency’, responsible for both the team and work, and the office itself. What you will be doing: Responsible for all project output of your team, often running significant volumes of work at the same time – the ability to be both in the detail and out of it is critical. Exceptional relationship building skills with a track history of creating long-lasting, beneficial alliances with clients at all levels, from CMO down. Confidence in client interaction, not being afraid to challenge them or negotiate with them when necessary to create win- win outcomes, whilst maintaining a positive relationship. Understand how client’s business works, their internal stakeholder intricacies and how to talk their language. Ability to act as the escalation point for the client for any issues, taking a problem-solving attitude and approach. Responsible for the guidance and development of the team. Great communication and leadership are essential; this includes both the ability to inspire the team and spot potential as well as manage difficult team dynamics. Commercial acumen and deep understanding of the agency business model. Including management of the P&L for the team and ability to forecast operational income to SLT. Implementation of new accounts where applicable. Working in a team of 60. 4 direct reports. Knowledge of Shopper Marketing and FMCG / Retail experience critical. Financial responsibility of up to £5m. This is an onsite role, based across the client and OLIVER Offices in Nottingham. We do have a hybrid working pattern but expect a minimum of 3 days in the office – this could be more based on client meetings. You will be open and willing to attend sustainability training relevant to your role and soak up recommended research and reading about sustainability issues What you need to be great in this role: Strong gravitas and the ability to build relationships with senior clients, building trust in the team and the work. A team player with a client centric focus and possess the ability to build strong and effective working relationships with your teams and colleagues. A deep understanding of running an in-house agency or large teams. An entrepreneurial spirit, ability to think on your feet and to make autonomous decisions. Ability to work independently – whilst you will have strong OLIVER support around you, you will be the most senior person in a satellite office so will be required to lead. Competence in managing teams in a matrix environment. Demonstrate ownership of large or complex clients at BD level. Evaluate and optimise ways of working with wider teams. Build strong relationships with stakeholders and continually look for ways to drive efficiencies across BUs. Strong people management skills. Support and develop the team, setting a strategy for their training and development, liaising with clients to manage workloads and is always prepared to get stuck in during busy periods. Experience in Retail and FMCG. Experience working with Shopper Marketing and in-store retail channels.
