Technical Manager – Niche Food Manufacturer
Location: Milton Keynes
Salary: £40,000 to £55,000 doe
Let’s be honest: most Technical Manager roles are exactly what they sound like. Compliance, audits, checklists… important stuff, sure, but not exactly a thrill a minute.
Now, imagine a role where the technical side is only the start.
This niche food manufacturer is a bit of a hidden gem. They’ve been around for 30 years, producing high-quality meat, fish, and vegetarian products under strict dietary standards and supplying their brands to major UK retailers. Recently, they were bought by a new owner with ambitious growth plans, and that’s where you come in.
They’re looking for a Technical Manager who wants more than the usual day-to-day. This isn’t just about maintaining quality standards – it’s about getting involved across manufacturing, engineering, and purchasing. You’ll be diving deep into the nuts and bolts of the business, working alongside production teams, managing suppliers, and bringing ideas to the table.
If you’ve got an entrepreneurial spark and the drive to help grow a business, this is your chance.
What They’re Looking For
They need someone with solid experience in food manufacturing – ideally with a background in meat, fish, and vegetarian products. You’ll be comfortable managing compliance (SALSA certification experience is a big plus) and handling quality standards, but you’ll also be ready to expand beyond technical work into operations and purchasing.
This role is for someone who’s curious and ambitious. Someone who wants to understand the full picture of a business, not just stay in the technical lane. Someone who’s interested in growing their role as the company grows.
The Ideal Candidate
• Experienced in food manufacturing, with knowledge of meat, fish, or vegetarian products.
• Hands-on and comfortable getting involved in manufacturing and engineering processes.
• Ready to manage supplier relationships and purchasing, or quick to learn if it’s new to you.
• Familiar with (or open to learning about) religious dietary standards, such as kosher and halal.
• Ambitious and interested in the business side, not just the technical side.
Why This Role is Different
• You’ll be joining an established, niche company in a market with little direct competition – but with plans for growth and new opportunities.
• It’s a Technical Manager role with a twist – you’ll have a chance to shape the future of the business, not just maintain the status quo.
• You’ll work closely with a small team, so if you’re ready for variety and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, this role has your name on it.
If this sounds like the kind of Technical Manager role you’d actually get excited about, then let’s talk.
Technical expertise? Yes, they need it. But ambition, curiosity, and a readiness to make an impact? Those are non-negotiable.
