Fellowships in Anaesthesia & Quality Improvement or Anaesthesia & Education, August 2025 (One post in each).
Post details, Quality Improvement
You will contribute to departmental involvement in national quality improvement projects such as NELA and PQUIP. In addition, you will be supported in completing departmental quality improvement activities dependent on personal interest. You will be encouraged to present these in appropriate national forums. You will be provided with a supportive educational supervisor.
This post will give you the opportunity to contribute to the oversight, delivery, and quality assurance of current departmental and multidisciplinary training programs such as the South Tees Anaesthetic New Starters Course. In addition, there are several opportunities for further education related projects which you would be encouraged to develop, dependent on your individual interest. Previous incumbents have been involved in organising educational events for medical students, junior doctors, and theatre staff, involving running simulation and multidisciplinary team teaching. The anaesthetic department has dedicated teaching and training facilities including high fidelity simulation and video conferencing. You will be provided with a supportive consultant educational supervisor.
Perioperative Services Directorate
You will join a department consisting of 80 Consultants (including military) and 8 SAS grade doctors who form the Directorate of Anaesthesia across the two sites. In addition, there are Residents in anaesthesia who rotate within the Northern School of Anaesthesia (Northern Deanery) and also locally employed Anaesthetists (These include those working on a portfolio pathway towards becoming a consultant). The department provides anaesthesia for a full range of tertiary services and was recently awarded Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) by the Royal College of Anaesthetists, reflecting excellence in all areas of delivery.
Teaching and Training
The South Tees Anaesthetic department has a longstanding culture of high-quality delivery of teaching and training. A GMC visit in 2018 recognised a strong supportive ethos and an engaged and enthusiastic consultant training faculty (GMC Report).
The anaesthetic department provides recently updated and easily accessible training, teaching and office facilities along with a dedicated high fidelity simulation facility. In addition, there are further high-quality training facilities and a library with 24 hour access within the trust.
