The role Improving quality of life through place making and regeneration is our aim, and as an Assistant Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in achieving this vision. Based within the Sustainable Growth division, you’ll be involved in delivering a diverse range of development projects, both large and small, that aim to bring tangible benefits to the community. These projects span various domains, including new builds, refurbishments, landscaping, highways, and site feasibility work, all tailored to meet the Council’s commitment to providing a fairer future for all. In this role, you’ll oversee the entire lifecycle of development projects, from initial feasibility studies and appraisals to procurement and implementation. You’ll work collaboratively with various stakeholders to commission designs, evaluate proposals, and prepare detailed project briefs. Managing budgets and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope are key responsibilities, as is maintaining rigorous quality management systems to monitor contract performance and financial compliance. To do this we will also help with career development, training and becoming professional qualified. A crucial aspect of your work will be to represent the Council’s vision and priorities in diverse forums, including public consultations, corporate groups, and working parties. You’ll often liaise with residents, senior management, and external partners to foster engagement and alignment. Key responsibilities: • Manage the delivery of development projects, including appraisals, feasibility studies, and procurement. • Prepare client briefs and tender documents for specialist services, ensuring effective project implementation. • Monitor project progress, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. • Coordinate stakeholder engagement, including public consultations, corporate groups, and working parties. • Develop and present complex reports to senior management, project boards, and residents. • Maintain project quality management systems and manage funding applications, ensuring compliance with financial protocols. How will you make an impact as our Assistant Project Manager? You’ll have relevant and direct experience in the project management of physical interventions in and around the built environment i.e. new build, refurbishment, landscaping, highways, site optioneering and working with developers and small to medium enterprises. • A degree-level qualification and/or relevant experience of acting in a project management role on building projects within existing communities and urban contexts. • Knowledge of redevelopment delivery, including building contracts, professional services, leases, and related processes. • Proven experience in delivering physical projects on time, on budget, and to high-quality standards. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide group of community stakeholders and convey complex information effectively. • Expertise in using a range of IT programmes, supporting project reporting and presentations. • Experience working collaboratively with communities, internal teams, and external partners to achieve shared goals. • Organisational skills to plan and manage a wide and challenging workload efficiently. • A commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring all projects align with Council principles.
