US International Tax – Director (equivalent to AVP)
This position requires a highly motivated individual with a strong skillset who can lead a team of 3-4 associates/analysts to deliver high quality results via management of numerous deadlines and deliverables and commitment to learning and interpreting technical rules and regulations. This role is based in Glasgow and will liaise with employees across Finance and the wider organization globally.
What will you be doing?
* Develop a deep understanding of the US international tax compliance and provision processes to both prepare some of the more complicated aspects of filings and estimates, as well as to provide high level guidance and review of staff workpapers.
* Manage the day-to-day questions and workload of the staff, ensuring all deliverables are met by agreed upon due dates. Provide summarized weekly status updates to their manager.
* Facilitate weekly Glasgow/NY team calls by keeping track of open items and leading discussions to confirm the status of deliverables via deadline calendars.
* Participate in the international team’s new project to modernize key workpapers and calculations.
* Develop a strong technical understanding of US tax concepts while monitoring changes in proposed and enacted legislation.
* Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
* Work with the domestic tax team, local tax, legal entity controllers, global tax control, tax technology, external advisors, external auditors, and Morgan Stanley’s global tax team on various projects and information requests.
Qualifications
What we’re looking for:
* Qualified accountant, CTA or equivalent qualification – or relevant experience.
* Background in an accounting or law firm, bank, or in-house tax department.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with modeling/creating efficiencies in complex workpapers a plus.
* Experience in both leading and motivating a team as well as being a committed team-player (as this role is part of a highly collaborative and engaged group).
* Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
