Field Service Engineer – Switchgear
Location: St Helens (Travel UK Wide)
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000
Overtime: Mon-Fri 1.3x / Sat-Sun 1.5x
Standard Hours: Mon-Thurs 07:00-16:00, Fri 07:00-13:00
On Call: Rota Based – 7 days (extra £150 p/w + OT rate)
The Role
Our client specialises in the design and manufacture of MV/LV packaged substations, low voltage electrical switchboards, power distribution units, motor control panels and related final power distribution and control equipment. You will be tasked with going to customer sites across the UK to fit and maintain their switchgear.
Main Responsibilities
1. Production of all Risk Assessments and Method Statements for all on-site works.
2. Production of detailed site reports/surveys.
3. Ensuring calibration of all test equipment in line with company policy/standards.
4. Availability for On Call duties and work to the call-out rotas for maintenance contracts.
5. Testing and certification of completed products on the shop floor where required.
6. Regular updates to maintenance files with new data as appropriate.
7. Managing and organising workload for live/dead/thermal imaging maintenance works.
8. Liaising effectively with clients regarding site works requirements.
9. IT literacy is required.
10. Completing installations, delivery, and commissioning of all company products where required.
11. Organising on-site installation and commissioning of all company jobs in liaison with your line manager.
12. Sound engineering background with a full understanding of test processes and procedures.
13. Communicating instructions to staff for client requirements/changes.
14. Upholding all maintenance contracts and scheduled maintenance visits.
15. Ensuring all switchgear is correctly installed, tested, and safe before leaving site with appropriate paperwork completed.
The Candidate
1. Apprentice served (technician, engineering or craft) certificate.
2. Developed report writing skills.
3. Comprehensive understanding of quality and H&S procedures and standards.
4. Possess analytical skills.
5. Knowledge of HSE regulations.
6. Commercially and market aware.
7. Sufficient industry knowledge.
8. Good knowledge and understanding of external business environment.
9. Strategic thinking.
10. Relevant IT/PC skills (MS Software).
11. Overall business/company knowledge.
12. Well-developed interpersonal skills.
13. Clean driving licence (UK).
