Job responsibilities The purpose of this role is to monitor and improve the rates of sickness in the organisation. The National Health Service (NHS) serves as the cornerstone of healthcare in the United Kingdom, offering essential medical services to millions of people annually. Despite the NHSs commitment to staff well-being, sickness is an inherent reality in any organization. To efficiently address sickness and its effects on healthcare delivery, the NHS has implemented a framework encompassing various stages which the Practice follows. Stage 1 Recording and Monitoring Absences Stage 2 Conducting Return-to-Work Interviews Stage 3 Trigger Points and Formal Reviews Stage 4 Occupational Health Involvement Stage 5 Formal Sickness Disciplinary Procedures This role only focuses on stage 1 and stage 3. The post holder will lead on the implementation of the Bradford Scoring System. This is a nationally recognised framework. Working with the practice the organisation will decide on the threshold scores that trigger reviews with employees. The postholder will monitor that upline managers within the practice are accurately recording sickness absence on GP teamnet. The postholder will run a report for the Partners monthly showing all employees and their current scores. Employees reaching a trigger point score will be discussed by exception. The post holder will then inform the line manager for further action and support to be undertaken with the employee. Originally developed at the Bradford University School of Management in the early 1980s, the Bradford Factor is used by numerous companies across the globe and the UK public sector. It provides a useful benchmark tool enabling managers to have an assessment score for an individual staff absence record. The Bradford Factor does not take into account any specific factors such as disability, or a short term, but recurring illness causing sporadic absenteeism over a period of weeks, but is useful for the early identification of concerns, or as a tracking tool. Many companies utilise the factor score as a trigger guide to implement more comprehensive support and monitoring procedures for individuals. This is adopted by many GP practices and is now available on GP teamnet. Success Measures 1. An employee measure of understanding of the new Bradford framework before and 12 months after implementation. 2. A 10 % reduction in sickness days from the previous 12 months 3. Using GP teamnet as the main portal for recording sickness and administering the Bradford scoring system Information Management Ensure that you remain up-to-date in the use of the various computer systems used by the Practice Communication Communicate effectively with other team members and patients. Contribute to the Implementation of Service Liaise with management about Practice polices, standards and guidance Discuss with other team members how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect their own work in regular meetings. General The Post Holder will be part of the Practice Team as a whole and flexibility of working pattern will be expected. Confidentiality of both patients and practice information must be protected and maintained in accordance with practice Policy. Any other duties appropriate to the Grade, as required by the Practice Manager or named Doctor. The post holder must be aware of the responsibility placed on him/her under the Health and Safety at work act (1974) and ensure agreed safety procedures are carried out in order to maintain a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors. This will include, but will not be limited to: Adhering to their individual responsibilities for infection control and health and safety, using a system of observation, audit and check, hazard identification, questioning, reporting and risk management Maintain and update knowledge of health and safety and infection control statutory and best practice guidelines and ensure implementation across the business Identifying risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks across the business Make effective use of training to update knowledge and skills Using effective infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way free from hazards, and initiation of remedial/corrective action where needed Actively identifying, reporting and correction of health and safety hazards, infection control hazards immediately when recognised Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas clean and tidy, identifying issues and risks / hazards in relation to other work areas within the business
